What’s your rappel yank down?

Where does everyone feel like the best place is to attached the pull down rope? I've tried attaching it right to the link and knot loop. Didn't seem to make much of a different. For me the biggest difference was getting away from the tree and pulling instead of trying to pull straight down at the base of the tree.

Best bank for the buck is just behind the link, not on the link. Clipping to the tag end just inside of the link will be the easiest pull down of all but if there is a crotch, you'll be pulling the link through the crotch and risk getting it stuck. So I prefer to always clip just behind the link and it works well almost every time.

I think attaching it to the very end of the link next to where it attaches to the downward leg is best. I base this own leverage. The further you are from that point, the more flex and fight from the rope bending that you’ll receive. I’m not saying it makes a huge difference but I can definitely tell the difference when I hook it behind the link or the eye, then when it’s on the very end.

That is one position I have not tried. A random spot on the link I have found it to be worse than on the scaffold knot, for instance. But right at the point of the link, you might be right about that.

I like it about 6-8 inches away from the link....

Further back away from the trunk is better....if u having a hard time with pulling u can wrap the rope behind ur butt, pull tight, and sit down....makes for a lot more force than just pulling with ur arms

I have switch to attaching my pull down rope on the opposite side of the loop and just pull the rope through. I’m sure it has some down sides but I’ve liked it better this way this season.

Use linesman belt to take weight off my climbing/tree tether/ rappell line and tie an Alpine butterfly. Connect pull down line and cinch point and A.B. come down parallel and don't experience friction issues.
Could you post a picture of this?

Wirrex said it best.... I think EVERYONE should spend an hour tying the JRB hitch. It melts off the tree and yr rope doesn't get caught on branches!!!! Once yr load(body weight) is off the rope, its easier than pie to get yr rope down. Just leave your loop and delta link on the end to hook your pulldown line to!

I see. Me personally not a fan of the quick link. I use a heavy duty steel carabiner on my rappel setup, no rubber washer. I hook my pull down line (paracord) same place where you show yours hooked up and have no problems, even when pulling almost straight down (I try to catch the carabiner before it hits the ground).

Paracord has been fine for me. I climb with my bow on my pack, but lower it before descending. Small biners on both ends of paracord so one on the bow, the other end on my rappel rope, AWAY from the end. Lowering the bow is easier than putting it on my pack, and makes sure I don’t forget to hook the paracord to rappel line.
So I have the same method sorta. I don’t carry my bow up I hoist everything once I’m at height and settled in (I just don’t like juggling to much stuff) so I have my hoist/pull down rope cut to 35 feet and attached to my saddle. But it is very unfortunate when you accidently lower your bow and never hook your rappel line!
