What are you doing with your pistol?

I walked within 10ft of a bedded black bear in the dark several years back. Then we just kinda stared at each other as I slowly backed away. I wasn't armed with anything other than my bow at the time. I always carry now. I also saw a mountain lion cross a logging road in my headlight beams as I was driving in one time. Game department says they are not here, but actual sightings say otherwise. I wouldn't have believed it had I not seen it. So I feel better armed.
We are told the same bs by c.o.'s here about Mountain lions, I've seen three crossing roads in the headlights on my way to work in the last 4 yrs.

I have the aliengear shapeshifter holster. I just discovered last night they make a molle expansion for it to make it easily work on molle. I will be getting that and attaching it to my pack which has molle all over it. I guess I could also attach it to the molle on my saddle but I think the pack is close enough.

I just got the shiftholster backpack attachment in today. Put it on my elk pack shoulder strap and don’t like it. It’s awkward and not easy to release with the push button. I’m returning it. Plus it just seemed cheap. I didn’t like the lil plastic 1/4 turn nuts that holds everything together.
Probably will just use my Blackhawk serpa on the pack’s waist belt.

I don't use the Shapeshifter as my EDC holster. I think it will server the purpose on my pack just fine.

This thread interests me greatly and I hunt farms as well and have seen many mountain lion tracks (alltho DGIF swears we don't have any) and yotes and wild dogs as well. I used to carry in my drop leg holster from my active duty days. Think that would work with a saddle?

Glock 26 IWB Appendix. Easy to hide and fast to draw because your hands hang right over it when talking to (
Critters). Doesn't bother my saddle there

I just purchased the holster from Alaskan Guide Creations which attaches to my bino harnesss. I don't have my harness with me to try it out yet (its at my cabin) but I like the quality of the holster. Looks like it will attach to multiple places on a backpack as well. I purchased it for a trip to Alaska where we will be hiking and fishing. I don't think I would like the holster attached to my bino harness for saddlehunting, but the holster should fit on the waistbelt of my pack.

Safariland makes alot of different stuff. I carry a Glock 30s in a 578GLS holster. Have the following QLS stuff all over the place, truck, house, on a paddle, and on molle attachment adapters. I have QLS receivers on the waist belt of every pack I own. Also have different holsters for other...."ahem".... toys with QLS forks on them, so everything is interchangable.

So, I carry on my waistbelt while walking and can either leave attached to waistbelt while in tree or I can take it off and put in the pack.

I found a shoulder holster under my jacket working best for me when hunting.less obvious when encountering other people and no need to rearrange between walking and sitting.

I carry mine in a paddle holster with the outer holster tucked behind my lineman's loops on my saddle. This has worked decent for the past season but the pistol rides a little too far back for my liking plus it seems to snag pretty bad when I try to take my pack off. For this next season I've been considering a drop leg holster.

This subject seems to come up a lot. I have been a qualified handgun/m4 carbine shooting instructor in the army for a long time. I've been thinking about doing a detailed write up on holsters and carry techniques that weighs out the pros and cons as far as the safety and efficiency of each method or holster. I just haven't because guns tend to be one of those things that guys will do their own thing with anyway.

A local guy was working for a land manager and doing cattle fence repair

A cow ran him down, trampled him & he’s wheelchair bound the rest of his life

Two years ago I walked an entire field full of bulls. There was a two wire fence that cut the field in half. I was on the other half of the field on the other side of the two wires. When they noticed me about a quarter through my walk up the field they charged the fence and I growled a yell and put my bow up and said hey hey! It wasn’t a full on charge but they were running. Well they stopped when they got to the fence but they walked right beside me all the way down the field.

I was terrified. I know nothing of farming or bulls. My gut said it was a little dangerous but I figured the fence was electrical and they would stop.

How dumb was that move? I’ll never do it again but it sounds like bulls are dangerous lol! I had no clue.

depends on the breed...Jerseys, mean as can be. Holsteins, a little better, highlands, not so bad. You know when local farmers who have been working with them for 50 years get stuck every once in a while, they're all unpredictable. I"ve startled a whole field of heifers in the dark one morning and had them stampede.scared the crap out of me, and I was lucky enough to get up on a stone wall.

357 revolver in a Diamond D chest holster. Usually under a jacket. Doesn't interfere with pack belt or saddle.

That should work just fine. When I get my sitdrag set up, I think I will sew the belt on the middle 1/3 so I can slip my leg holster onto the belt for my G19. Thanks for the idea!!
