What broadheads are you shooting this year?

125 Iron will Wide this year. First time shooting fixed blade, and went from 371 grain to 570 grain total set up weight. Hopefully I like this set up.

I also wanted to try both of those. How has the exodus performed for you? Do you get good blood trails pretty regularly?

I just switched to them last year and only shot I’ve got on deer resulted in a blood trail that looked like a murder scene. Deer piled up in 61 yards. Not sure why I’m trying anything different. But gonna give em both a try and do little comparison.

Your bow must be faster than mine. My montecs threeblade whistled last year when i was shooting the light arrows going 50 fps faster than this years heavy ones. The samurai's are pretty quiet for me.
I'm somewhere around 260fps with a VAP 300 @ 65#. Might bring home a sound meter from the office and see if I can catch the sound....

First year bog mechanicals...Probably get flogged here...but moving to a hc inline fir at least first deer. Shooting rage hypwrdermics. If I get out with my recurve..original bear greennies.

Cutthroats and edge broadheads from Australia. Got some kudu points on the way as well. Should have a good time with these 3. All 125gr with 150gr of ethics insert/outsert.

I love the kill thread. One for the cutthroats already. ~ 70# sow, complete pass through. Hit was a little back bc she wouldn’t stop moving but she went 100-125y and fell over. Was quite impressed. 22.5% foc and 550 taw. arrow rotated about 1/3 the way as it passed through.

When did you receive your edge broadheads? I ordered some at the end of April, and still haven’t received them...

May 15th, took a month to get. I’d email them if I was you. What train you order? I got the 125gr.

Also be prepared to get your sharpening on. They were basically field point sharp when I got them lol

Yeah, I did. I re-checked. Placed my order on 5/20, so it’s been just over 2 months. Ordered a set of 150 grains. I’m hoping it’s just COVID, but I don’t have any way of tracking it. Awesome!!

How hard were they to sharpen?... I wondered if I might not have to send em to a professional sharpener... I don’t have any power tools to take that coating off, other than a dremel, which would ruin them for sure

My Simmons heads weren't real sharp out of the pack but I've gotten a pretty good edge on them with the Rada wheelie sharpener. Like shave the hair on my arm sharp.

I never got a tracking number, they just showed up the day after I emailed the dude asking where they were lol

It took a little time but I got them good and sharp with sandpaper. Start from rough, 120 grit, and worked down to 5000 grit to polish. The edge/bevel on them are real steep so I took extra time to change the angle.

Iron Will Wide 125 and Magnus Stinger two blade 125 This year. First time with the IW. Have used QAD Exodus with great results as well.

How are yours flying? Im trying the 100 grains and struggling to get consistency. Two shoot good and the third sprays 4 inches away. Im going to try running that head on a different arrow or two tonight and see if i can get some pattern.
My Iron wills shoot right with my field points. The vented are a tad more consistent at distance, but the wides do great out to 60.

Well, mine shot great out to 40...but I WILL say that I bare shafted them through paper and nock tuned them prior to putting the broad head on...some may disagree, but I believe if you bare shaft tune your setup and get bullet holes through paper at 21 feet (or very close to bullet holes) then no broad head tuning is needed inside of 40 (which is my self imposed limit on a whitetail)...at least that has been the case with my setup and every one prior since I learned how to tune a bow

I got tired of trying to get a proper angle while sharpening 3-blade heads and wanted to go a little heavier, so I spent the $ on 3 150 grain Iron Will Wides. They fly well and are the sturdiest heads I have had in-hand with zero flex.

Also, if you have an arrow spinner, you might want to spin them with the broad head screwed in...there might be a chance that there’s some wobble in the point with that one flyer arrow you have. I don’t know what inserts you are using, but sometimes the broad heads don’t agree with the shaft/insert combo...that’s why ideally, you screw your broad heads in immediately after you epoxy your inserts so you can rotate the insert until it spins true and then let the epoxy set

I always spin test a broadhead AND a field point on arrows. If the field point spins true, and the broadhead does not, then I know the issue is with the broadhead.

Rage Hypodermic. All day everyday. I have put them through the shoulder blade with no issue at all. I can't remember the last time I didnt get a pass though (outside of a spine hit deer)

I do also keep a Slick Trick in the quiver in case I need to spot and stalk through the brush.

I’m shooting rage again this year. The blood trails are amazing and the deer go down quick. I’m not good at tracking so blood trails are extremely important to me in my BH selection.

I’m also shooting an adult arrow set up so I’m a little worried about shooting a light mechanical but I am hoping that stuff is over rated. Like, how could a rage work great for me on a lighter arrow set up and then all of a sudden bc I added some grains and FOC it’s going to turn to butter and melt when it hits a deer on a heavy arrow? I’m not buying that. I do believe the rest of what Ranch Fairy and THP say about mechanicals not doing well on a shoulder hit and fixed will excel in that scenario.

if anyone has advice on an adult fixed blade BH for a heavy arrow build that has AWESOME blood trails please let me know!

The whole point of this is for penetration...its your plan b when you hit bone. Using a rage upfront is counterproductive.

I have had crappy blood trails from a rage when it didn't pass through. and I had to wrestle a buck down by his antlers and stab him up through his armpit last season because my rage got ****ty penetration TWICE. It was my first and last season trying mechanicals. Honestly the only shots i havent had passthroughs on a deer. My neighbor talked me into it.

Just curious, how are you getting high foc? If you have a 200 gr insert I guess this would work. If you want to stay with a replacement blade cheap broadhead I like the ramcat hydroshocks they are one and done like a rage but they fly great and penetrate well on hard quartering away shots that you shy from with a mechanical. I would worry about bone hits still though. I have had amazing bloodtrails with those. I think alot of this is just luck though.

Bottom line is when you have a broadhead that blows through both sides and hits through the shoulder area that deer isn't going far. You will have a blood trail whether or not its like the evil dead movies and you can find it. Not having to shy away from there puts you in the good stuff where all the bigger arteries are. I have been using 200 gn samurais And 150gr magnus killer bee stinger 4 blades on a 115 gn insert. And I can promise you the way that thing cracks a target when it hits...its gonna kill whatever it hits. With the single bevel though it really does spin that arrow. You get at least a full rotation when you pull the arrow out of the target. They are made of thick, good steel and you can get them both shaving sharp easily

I bought 2 packs of annihilator 125s and I think they are super loud and I couldn't get them shaving sharp no matter how long I stropped. Not even gonna mess with them. Impulse buy at a show. Gonna give them to my wife for her xbow. That thing already sounds like a canon going off so cant be much worse.

Just my 2 cents
