What did you buy today?

Bought some linen, beeswax and mineral oil. A short time later I had fix’n wax that can be used to:
- lube patches for muzzleloaders
- lube trad bow strings
- be used as a cut ointment
- be used as lip balm
- help with firestarting
- waterproof leather and canvas
- many other things not listed

Traditionally, they used deer tallow or bear grease for the fat/oil but mineral oil won’t go rancid. Swap the mineral oil for a natural fat and it’ll be 100% organic, if that’s your thing.

Cool. Can you explain or describe how you do that?

By weight, it’s simply 1:1, beeswax to fat/oil. This is good for lip balms and salves. Increasing the mix up to about 1.3:1 gives you a firmer wax more suitable for patches and strings.

Put the beeswax in a mason jar, and heat it in water until liquified. Mix in the oil/fat until fully dissolved and pour into whatever mold you want.

I used cupcake wrappers which worked fine but am reheating and adding more beeswax to slightly stiffen the mix. That’ll then be poured into a BB tin and can be carried in a hunting bag.
