What did you do today?

Had an awesome weekend!

One of my good friends is going through a tough breakup and we wanted to do something to cheer him up. We decided to have a practice bachelor party so a few of my friends flew up from Florida on Thursday and one of my groomsmen's BIL graciously donated his property for us to have a boys weekend.

We bombed around on four wheelers, drank beer, had a campfire, fished in the pond, played card and board games, and shot some clay pigeons and targets. I got to introduce a couple of my friends who have never handled a firearm to basic safety and basic operation of both a shotgun and rifle. By the end of the afternoon of shooting they were both hitting clays with some consistency and hitting the pop-up target pretty regularly at 40 yards with my 22.

The highlight for almost everyone was rapid fire mag dumps with my Mark IV sporting my Rugged Oculus recently released from jail.

Great weekend to get away from the world and it's stresses right now. I'm 32 and have known most of these guys for 24 years, I consider them brothers and wouldn't trade them for the world. We all need great friends.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Realized that there’s a smaller green tote from deer season. In it is a trail cam. Bino’s. Kill kit. Ziplock with tags and such. Lord knows what else.

Yeah. It’s MIA.

Great.

Both kids were really into looking for tracks and inspecting bugs and plants.

Several years ago when my youngest son was probably 8 yrs old we went scouting one afternoon. A couple hours into it I could tell he was losing interest so when we came to a mud hole that had several types of tracks I told him I would give him a dollar for every track he could identify. He pointed at the ground and said "there's deer and there's turkey", and then proceeded to step in the mud, point at his track and go "there's human, wheres my three dollars?" I'm sure it won't be the last time he outsmarts me. :)

Well. Call off the dogs.

Me: babe. You seen green squatty tote with misc hunting gear?

Wife: no. Wait....green?

Me: yes

Wife: yeah I needed a tote for something. Did you look in that Lowe’s box. In the bedroom closet?

Me: no. Hunting stuff goes in the garage.

Wife: yeah. That where I got it....in the garage.

So I go looking in the box. Got everything except my kill kit. That’s prolly hiding in the jeep.

Last time I came up missing stuff was a few years ago. Now you have to understand I have about 9 totes of hunting gear piled against the wall of the basement. This spring it took me going through three totes to find a pair of heavy socks for turkey season this year (clothes, extra clothes, inclement weather gear).

The particular conversation I'm referring to was the night before turkey season a few years ago and went something like this:

Me: Where do you put my boots and camo bibs this winter?
Wife: I didn't touch your boot or bibs.
Me: I'm sure I left them just outside the door in the garage. You had to have moved them somewhere.
Wife: They must be down on your hunting gear somewhere, I didn't touch 'em.
Me: I looked there, they aren't where they belong, you must have moved them somewhere.
Wife: I don't touch your hunting gear . . . you know that.

After another hour of fruitless searching and semi-under my breath complaining (cleaned up for Redsquirrel) I suddenly remember that I had left them behind the truck after getting undressed in a sudden rainstorm during rifle season the fall before. I had even gone back to look for them at that time but someone had already benefited from my gift. . . . . I hate having to admit I was wrong to the wife . . . .:tearsofjoy:.

I've had similar conversations. I end up admitting I am wrong to my wife way more than she admits she is wrong to me. I like to think that's because I'm more willing to admit my mistakes and not because I'm wrong that much more than her. :)

Good move. When I was a teenager cat fishing on the bayou we used these

We didn’t have a winch though, just a rope. If you know what those are, you are older than the average bear. Ha! Ha!
Window weights! I prefer these in the canoe, especially with silty bottom. Let them free fall and they stick into the silt/mud like a torpedo! Great anchors.

Started the process of getting this free boat back to my house went and grabbed the wheels off the trailer so I can get new tires put on them. Yet another project to work on in my spare time while I'm resting.

It's a real cool old 14ft aluminum boat. Hoping I can breathe some life into the old engine as well.

Bought my second preference point for Iowa. Contemplating and researching a potential switch from VAPs and Grizzlystick samurai's to Day Six arrows and the Evo head.... Still gonna be about 530-540 grains...

I’m doing the same with a 16’!!!! Finished up two years ago. Never used last year (go fogire) this year I’m thinking of adding a casting deck and turning her into a tiller and putting a trolling motor up front on the deck. With a seat base

Ripped out a floors worth of carpet so the installers could get in and lay LVT this week, and finished mudding a laundry room I re-did. Looking forward to taking a break for a few days on that project and watching some other people work for a change. Maybe get out there and find a turkey!

Bought a cargo trailer for my wife's business. Was a pain finding one in stock but we finally found one about 2 hours away. Was fun backing a trailer for the first time in 8 years.
