What did you do today?

Just got done pulling about 75 porky quills from one of the dogs mouth. Let them out one last time before bed and he found a porky. I hate those things. I will get vengeance before the year is done. They can't hide so well once the leaves drop.

I hate porkys, and dogs are stupid. It seems like after a dog gets quilled once, it will attack any porky it can find with a vengeance and lose every time. At least that's been my experience with Labs.

Mine too. I had one that bit one twice. Once wasnt enough, he had to go back for seconds. Luckily this wasn't that bad, lips, tongue and roof of the mouth. The dog took me holding his mouth open and yanking quills better than any other I've dealt with before.

Finished up a few things around the house

Started finding all my documents for my upcoming trip to Winnipeg, Canada.

Going in the 27th for 3 weeks for work. Got to pack up and get ready!
Should be fun.

Got my food packed up for my upcoming elk hunt. Daily intake will be about 2200-2300 calories. Got the weight to just under 12 pounds for a weeks worth of food. I leave Friday to get acclimated to elevation and will be visiting with a friend in Denver. Hunt starts next Tuesday for 7 days.

Awesome! I am guessing you've been out to CO before? I was out in 2017 with a buddy who lives out in Redstone. I was out for 4 days in 3rd rifle. It was a lot of hard work but well worth it hence my avatar pic. Good luck and enjoy! Be sure to let us know the story when you return

First time elk hunting. OTC archery tag. I was supposed to go last year but my buddy had to have surgery so I am going this year. I think my legs are in shape but I just worry about the altitude and oxygen levels. I've read it take a few days to get acclimated. My hunt is next Tuesday but I'm getting there Friday night to get some hikes in. I'll definitely post when I get back

Got it done over the weekend.

Last weekend, I cut shooting holes for 3 stands/trees. I prepped another with bolts and cut holes for it. Later than i like, but better now than later.
I love me some bolt prepped trees.

Took the mountain bike for a little scouting trip this morning to one of my favorite spots. Also tried a new climbing method for myself. I recently bought a 6 step BD aider. I used it in conjunction to my WE stepps. Actually really liked it and will be using that climbing system to start the year. Also, rappelled with the BD figure eight @phatkaw posted about. Like that as well! Fun and productive morning

Started prepping everything for deer season. Pulled the trunk out and found that I had enough trash bags and tarps left over from last year so all I'll need to buy is some new sawz-all blades and sharpen knifes and broadheads.

It's nice once you get to a point that you only need to restock odds-n-ends vs. having to buy that "one thing" you didn't have last year.

Final sight-in with the broadheads along with a final sharpening of said broadheads. My L/R is dead-on at 20, 30 and 40 yards and hit about 1" lower than my field points at 20 yards, 2" lower at 40 yards.

I love and hate the anticipation this time of year.

I am not a heavy arrow guy but did you weigh both your field points and broadheads to see if they weight the exact same? Maybe you already did this. Just wondering why it would be low? Guessing you are shooting 'heavier' arrow set up.

I'm assuming it is the increased drag factor of the broadheads.

Point weight is the same, 100gr. They are fixed blade heads, G5 CS, so the added wind resistance could be an issue. I am shooting different arrows (same make/model/length/spine/etc) so that could also be a factor between the field point arrows.

Truthfully though, I'm okay with this. My hunting arrow batch are all hitting in the same area with no noticeable fliers. If my L/R was off, that would be a concern. However, hitting slightly low probably isn't a bad thing. If it doesn't flinch, it's a perfect heart shot. If it jumps the string and starts ducking, it'll center itself for a double lung...assuming that I do my part of course.
