What did you do today?

Drove 3 hours, went to an awards picnic, gave someone in my field a surprise award for service, drove 3 hours home. Got paid to drive and eat and make someone's day.

We had a pair of sharp shouldered hawks successfully raise a chick in a tree in our yard...as long as I give it a 10yd safety bubble, it lets me get close.... It's learning to hunt and had just finished a lizard right before I got this pic....

Took the grandson fishing
He is almost 5. He don’t know how to cast yet maybe by the end of summer. He hooked the first fish on the first cast

He hung in there pretty good. He had a ton of bites but couldn’t figure out how to hook them he just would start reeling and most got off before the bank. Here’s his second fish

He absolutely will not touch them. He had a blast and I took him in before he got too bored, hot and burnt out on his first trip. But it was a great morning with the two of us.

I had to watch the baby this am and now I'm watching it rain.....planning out tomorrow path to feral hog meat. There was pigs there last year so I gonna check it out. Should get some nice photos either way....the terrain in this area is very nice. Forecast says 90

Skunked by the pigs again today. It was very hot/humid so I went for the creek sneak thinking they may be layed up on the banks to cool off. I had 2 pigs cruising the bank but I wasn't able to get positioned for a shot in time. Watched a nice velvet buck and his dink buddy munching leaving for a while and that was cool...I was able to sneak in on them to within 30-35yrds.

Well I was a little bored and saw the roll of duct tape sitting next some foam. Naturally they can not sit there by themselves. I added some insulation to my lunch box and it’s sweet.

Had a junk hauling company come and take a huge amount of junk away. Watching them pick up and load a lot of large and heavy objects made me feel old.

Went with the wife for our few time a week drive around and look for deer, we saw quite a few, including some fawns and button bucks.

There's a farm on our usual route that we usually pull over so the wife can check the goats (shes a huge fan of goats). We noticed that this time all the pregnant goats we've seen thelast few months had given birth. On the way back we pulled in and talked to the guy about his goats, and got permission to walk up to the fence and see the babies.

Good low cost night out with the wife that she really enjoyed 20210608_221640.jpg

Added lights to my workbench so my dad and I can stop squinting so much. These led tube lights were under 50 bucks for 4x 4ft fixtures. Chinesium has its place.

I washed the 4runner last night and put on ceramic coating. It looks really good and is supposed to last longer than normal wax. First time using it, so we will see.

Other than that, I have been training for my upcoming elk hunt and working. Not much time to get on here lately.

Busy day…also used my saddle hunting gear to hang some lights in our front yard. Could I have used a ladder??? Yes. But I wouldn’t have gotten any practice and my wife wouldn’t be thrilled that my expensive hobby is paying dividends in more ways than one. Not getting paid, but I might get laid.
