Thought long and hard about dinning a head lamp and going to climb a tree. Then decided not to do that.

It’s too dang muggy, even this late. Come on fall/winter.

Hit the archery shop for some target practice and feedback on my technique.

Then some practice climbs. Wooweee…let’s hope I get the jacked up climbs all out of the way before hunting season cause today was FUBAR. Yikes. I think I made all the mistakes one can make minus falling.
I got down to the bottom of the tree and gave myself a new nickname. “The 40yr old virgin saddle hunter”. It was laughable, but I live to practice another day.

I think I may seriously write out a checklist, read it to myself at the bottom of the tree just so it’s all fresh in my mind and I see it with my eyes. That and I am going to practice visualization of my climb as I fall asleep each night.

Checklist isn't a bad idea until u get all the moves memorized.

On ur days u don't work I would encourage u to get some practice climbs in the dark fully decked out in all ur stuff.....sometimes the simplest little thing u didn't account for can screw u up....pack and saddle clearance, the little biner u use to do whatever random thing interfere with ur jacket etc....
One of my first saddle hunts was painful because of my rubber boot and knee pads creating a pinch point on my legs. I never bothered to wear them both at the same time during practice and I had a bad experience because of it

Excellent advice. I am very heat-averse (part of why I was willing to move from the motherland to Sconny), but I do need to make some climbs in all my gear soon.
