What gear upgrade (if any) will put more deer in my freezer?

I finally got my stimulus check and I want to at least put some of that towards hunting gear. I’ve got all the basics (pack, one stick, few trail cams, kestrel saddle). Just want to put another deer in the freezer this year. What would you spend your extra $$ on for that? I’m leaning towards more trail cams. Convince me of something else! Thx for the opinions.
Private land and lots of corn lol

1990 F-150. Add a brush guard to the front. Drive the back roads at night at high speeds. Shouldn't take long. You can get multiple and keep the good stuff.
Get a brush guard like a freight train!!! Plow it down and keep on moving lol

^^^ Balony !
He will kill more deer with some new Predator camo!
With the price of beef last summer I made my mind up the local deer herd was gonna catch heck, and they did lol, 3 different types of venison bologna for your viewing pleasure, I’m fresh out of jalapeño and cheese bologna though I just realized, good thing season starts in a couple months!!!5C855BF9-AFC0-4839-A647-8BA592029916.jpeg

HuntStand membership and load that app full of pins and scouting icons.

Good books, but read stuff that wouldn’t necessarily be up your alley or match your region… like Hal Bloods big woods tracking books even if you don’t track or hunt the big woods bc it will help expose you to diversity of thought and help you think outside the box

^^^ Is Hal Bloods about 90 or 100 years old?
I still remember reading a book about tracking bucks in "the big woods" when I was a kid and it was an old book then.

I loved that book and learned A LOT...

I had jokes, but seriously if there was something you could buy that would put an extra deer in the freezer we would all buy it. The only thing that is going to put another deer in the freezer is letting the arrows and bullets fly. Don't be picky, first deer you see dies. Put meat in the freezer and then trophy hunt. Also, if you can get into private deer populations. Leases or hunt clubs. I disagree with the guided hunt, because most times they have a minimum on the size deer you can shoot and you just want to put meat in the freezer.

Hey Topdog, that one bear mount of mine you like took me on one heck of tracking journey...

I found his tracks going in the woods before daylight. He lead me through miles and miles of woods that the tornadoes of 1985 (?) Tore up...He went up and down and across the top of a bunch of mountains and stayed in that jungle pretty much the entire way. He backtracked probably half a dozen times stepping in his own foot prints. (I've seen that trick before)
Anyway, I had been completely lost for hours and miles because of all the random directions he went and it was cloudy enough that I couldn't even use the sun for help. After a while I really didn't care if I had made it into New York because I was determined to kill this S.O.B. for taking me through all that stuff...
So, the area I was in they call it 'The Virgin Timbers' because it has NEVER been logged or stripped. The trees are absolutely huge and tons of them were knocked down by the tornadoes years ago.
I'm trying to catch up with this sucker and be as quiet as possible at the same time....
Just as I crawl over another (the millionth) giant tree I had to go under some thick beech branches , there He was!
About 6 feet away and staring me right in the eyes!

I lay on the couch and we still stare at each other...

A bit off topic, but something I’ve noticed when tracking bears that others may appreciate if they encounter a similar situation. As you mentioned, a hit or wounded bear can double back on its tracks - and the one that I’ve seen several times that threw me off initially is when they jumped on a downed tree or log and run along its length. Deer don’t do that! So, that was a learning moment for me: if it appears a bear is following a trail through the thick stuff and you suddenly lose its track right after it appears to go OVER a downed tree or log - check the tree or log - as the bear may have run ON the downed tree or log and not over!

(Not related to the OP’s thread about buying more GEAR that will put more deer meat in the freezer, just sharing KNOWLEDGE that could help put more bear meat in the freezer!)

I doubt 'Phil' will mind a little bear talk.

Bears will actually go out of their way to walk across a log or some big rocks. They are fun to follow. (usually)
Another trick I picked up on is right before bedding down they often crawl through something super thick like a treetop or just a nasty 'bramble' of whatever. That way they will be woken up if something is tracking them. I would guess Mama bear teaches them that at a very young age so a big ol' boar doesn't get them.
