What gun do you hunt with?

I have never hunted deer with a firearm. I think I might get one this year. Im stuck between a Ruger American or a Marlin 336 for southeast hunting.

.270 Remington. 130gr. So far its death to all hits. Had it for hunting 30 years. First rifle and have not seen a reason to get anything else.

12 Ga Winchester 1300, never done me wrong.

Got a Henry .44 big boy to try this year.

Just got the girlfriend all set up with a Ruger American compact in 308 with a vortex diamondback 3x9 scope, should be a great lightweight deer Slayer.

Reading these post made me think, I have hunted since I was a teen (now 68). I have owned and traded a lot of guns and still have more than I need but I have never owned or shot a high powered rifle. Don't realy know why that is.

I found 2 JM stamped 336 30-30 Marlins at a pawnshop in my town. One is a 1971 and the other is a 1974. Any advice for looking at used guns? All I know is I want a JM stamp for quality and no janky safety that the new 336s have. If anyone knows a good bit of info on these guns or has advice on buying a used gun at a pawn shop, please PM me.

I picked up a 1969 JM 336 last year.... Love it! If you get one and ever fully disassemble it, be very careful with the barrel band screws... Don't over tighten. If you snap one they're impossible to replace with originals. I had to buy the screw and band from a Remlin (new) 336 and file the hole bigger to fit.

I have a bunch of notes on my computer from last year when I was searching for a JM. I'll try to find them and send them to you tomorrow. If you don't hear from me, PM me and remind me.
