What Have I Done…

Lived in FL from 1990 till 2014... hunted deer there once... never again... mosquitoes, fire ants, I hung my kayak up on a gator.... nope enough of that.... the first commenter was right... hunt underwater... spearfishing is the most fun hunting there is period.... if u don't get anything, you still went diving... not sure if there's any reefs up by the pan handle but you I'm guessing you can find some structure..... in FL stick to fish and turkey.... go north to GA or AL for deer

As far as I know the worst stings in Florida are velvet ant, puss caterpillars, ur bees/wasps, jellyfish, and some kinds of fish....
Sharks and alligators can obviously be dangerous but if u just be cautious it's nothing to worry about. Bears and Panthers are nothing to worry about. Same with the snakes...I go out looking for snakes and the only time a venomous snake has struck at me was when I was messing with them.

The major concerns/discomforts for me are yellow flys, dehydration/heat stroke and getting struck by lightning.

My wife is from Florida, south Florida. I would do what her family does. One cousin goes from Stuart to around Valdosta, GA, another cousin goes from crystal river into Georgia also. A brother in law goes to Virginia. I have a cousin that goes from palatka to some where in South Carolina. Looks like Alabama is right there at you. Might be a good option. My wife’s family says the best hunting to do in Florida is for the air conditioner.
Good ol Valdosta....

Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you handle it. Therefore you should embrace the hunting opportunities you have in FL because everyone knows the deer hunting in GA is hot garbage. :tearsofjoy:

Could be worse you could be moving to PA.

I think id find enough other **** to entertain me most of the year and maybe spend 2 weeks somewhere good and that would be my "season". I couldnt do the heat, Im so over summer here that I cant imagine there.

Fishing/Spearfishing it is!

Nah, I’m sure I’ll get out some, but I would much rather take a long annual trip up to WI in late October/early November. Thanks for the feedback fellas.

Well, not many states can brag about those 18 foot Python trophy’s or iguana hunting opportunities. And don’t forget about the pigs!

Man my heart dropped at the first sentence - WI to FL! I feel for you, but with change comes opportunity. You can never have a negative without a positive.

If you get down there and it completely sucks, just remember you moved down there and you can move again.

We are selling our place in WI and moving to FL! I can think of so many reasons to be excited, but one big one I’m not excited about is the hunting changes. I hear all the stories of you FL boys mucking through the swamp and I have to say it definitely dampens my hunting spirits. One of my favorite things about hunting in WI was getting out in the crisp, cool temps. I still plan to journey back up to WI to get some hunting in up there, but that being said…I have a lot to learn about hunting in FL.

Our plan is to move to the Santa Rosa Beach area. Probably early to mid-October. We have an accepted offer for our house, but closing is a ways out. I’ll be doing my homework online, but if any of you have any bits of advise to pass on I will take it. And don’t worry, I already own a Thermacell. ;) TIA!

get used to smaller deer...and change your name to CrocsnshortsnFL lol

fwiw, the panhandle has some of the best hunting in the state in my opinion. Archery doesn't start there until 3 weekend of October, and the rut is in full swing from about Christmas closer to Tally to mid-Feb the further west ya get. The rest of the time fishing is great! Welcome, just go with the flow and you'll be fine....

I’ve seen some great bucks in Florida. I don’t know where they hide at on public land I’ve never hunted florida, but all down along the panhandle I’ve seen studs at night.
