What is your 'Yote Huntin' Setup?

What are the community favorite resources for learning how to get started? Ive only killed them while deer hunting and want to start callin them in.

I hunt in north ga, so mostly timber and thickets with big ridges and deep hollows - no big fields or praries. Most "how to" resources are geared to western style hunting so its hard finding info specific to my area.

Im all about meandering through the woods like a blind hog and try to get lucky and find an acorn, but i dont want to educate them if i can help it.

All public land is closed for hunting until deer archery season, so ill be restricted to my lease (700 acres) and a few small door-knock permission areas I have access to.

Quick tip on coyote hunting, if it's common knowledge to coyote hunters, it will be common knowledge to the coyotes, especially in the east where population of coyotes and wanna be coyote hunters aee.

Set up like you would for turkey hunting but keep the wind in mind. Keep them looking for the source of the sound. I like to set 30 yards down wind of the call because I found that they always circle 50 yards down wind when hunting in the woods. Keep a shotgun and a rifle with you. I like lead bb in a 12 gauge and a bolt action 223.

Cool, thanks!

What choke would you use for bb? Would you want a tighter one for range or an open one since your shot is bigger (ive never really experimented with buckshot and chokes)

Here’s my first round of reloads. I’m going to a different wad to hopefully tighten the pattern. I tried a couple different chokes but the best by far was the primos tightwad turkey. The distance and load data is written on each target. 4EDC618D-9089-4CB0-9C21-E38B8BDD5CE4.jpeg08EAC382-6E5A-4EA0-A3E6-11B2C323E657.jpeg4DB6FB1C-EA37-4C6E-BC62-38A291B2AC35.jpegDAECECB0-132B-4FC4-8DDE-5A8603A8F8DD.jpeg4C9CA853-DE12-486B-A701-C86439B14C8C.jpegBE229AE1-CAED-4924-A1D9-7936DACB2AD4.jpeg794FD2C5-DA72-4502-9C6F-9D524BAD85D5.jpeg773771FA-9251-421A-BFBF-A078D42A89F3.jpeg5B38D8F0-D08C-447B-B166-F5BE941208A5.jpeg99B01114-88F0-4CA0-B84B-AFE238D96306.jpeg4EDC618D-9089-4CB0-9C21-E38B8BDD5CE4.jpeg08EAC382-6E5A-4EA0-A3E6-11B2C323E657.jpeg4DB6FB1C-EA37-4C6E-BC62-38A291B2AC35.jpegDAECECB0-132B-4FC4-8DDE-5A8603A8F8DD.jpeg4C9CA853-DE12-486B-A701-C86439B14C8C.jpegBE229AE1-CAED-4924-A1D9-7936DACB2AD4.jpeg794FD2C5-DA72-4502-9C6F-9D524BAD85D5.jpeg773771FA-9251-421A-BFBF-A078D42A89F3.jpeg5B38D8F0-D08C-447B-B166-F5BE941208A5.jpeg99B01114-88F0-4CA0-B84B-AFE238D96306.jpeg

I finished the season with 2 coyotes, 1 bobcat, 3 gray fox, 4 possums and 2 coons. I also missed several fox and a few more coyote. I’m waiting a few weeks for the pups to come out of the dens before I start hunting again.

Ar with red dot and surefire and a gen 1 nv monocular for scanning. Sometimes a suppressed 10/22 on bright nights. Yotes will circle any bait in a 100yard circle. I've used the screaming rabbit sound to call them in but it's an awful damn noise. They are tougher to hunt than people think. Pretty smart and skittish.

We have too many coyotes on the property we hunt. I was curious about what tips you guys had for targeting these critters and the gear you used/ setup you have?
  • saddle setup/location?
  • method of take? (firearm you use?)
  • calling tips/gear?
  • time of day?
Help a rookie out! thanks
If nothing comes in within 20-25 minutes move to another spot. I usually travel around 50 miles a night hitting different areas.

45 yards, 15 hits. 35 yards 40 hits. 18”x 12” target. 2 3/4” nickel plated lead bb 34 grains of blue dot powder in a Remington Gun Club hull. I’m going to drop the powder charge to 32 and see if it tightens up some more. They kick like a 3” turkey load. 86119715-4A4D-4A8E-80A6-6C8C726AC4B2.jpeg76735631-0FE4-4F05-AD2A-9A1184526A46.jpeg
