What will you change/improve for next year?

I say it every year but presets.

At home I’ve got to figure out foodplotting and at least one box blind, preferably two so my kids can sit with me during gun season.

I am seriously considering jumping into self-filmed hunting from my saddle.

I don't shoot many animals, but it would be fun to try and explain why I set up where I did to just about EVERYBODY who would take the time to watch me in a tree; perhaps my location choice(s) is the reason why I don't shoot many animals...

My biggest change for next year will be jumping in to public land hunting. I plan to start scouting a couple of local WMA’s near me. In East Tennessee that will be interesting since most of our public land is some pretty rough mountainous terrain. For next year i also plan to drop some weight and get in better shape, also for the public land hunting.

Also want to finish dialing in my one-stick setup with the Scout platform added to my Shikar Mini.

And my most important change is to continue to grow to enjoy the hunt as much as the kill. Learn on each hunt whether it’s successful or not.

This was my first year switching from a climber to a saddle, and I am addicted. Next year I plan on dropping the sticks for srt/rapel or one sticking. The lighter weight was nice this year for sure, but dropping even more has me super excited

I will be in this boat next year. This was probably my last year as a climber hunter. I've done a ton of research on saddles and which climbing method I wanted to do. Nothing about any of the processes are complicated. I can't wait to start ordering stuff for the 2021 season. I am definitely leaning towards 1-stick/ rappelling for next year. Talk about super light setup.

Out with the Hawk sticks and in with the Shikar sticks for me. I also plan to get a new pack, but undecided on this effort for sure.

More public land scouting in and out of state. Had way more fun hunting all public land this year after losing my lease. Continue to shoot my long bow year round.

Shoot 'em when I see them!

Season closes in 11 days and I still have tags left with no time to get out. Sitting here thinking about everything I passed early :(

Got a 5-step aider for WE Steps to try instead of knaider/swader.

Got a Mantis to replace diy/sitdrag.

Going to start carrying a first aid kit. Climbing trees, sharp broadheads, knifes, saws...probably a good idea.

Hi
I saw on Sean’s Outdoor Adventures on YouTube his “Ultimate Climbing System”. I think that will be my ideal setup. I’m really comfortable on those types of ladders. Other than that I’m really comfortable in the saddle. I may change my bow hanger and figure out something new to hold my milkweed, but that’s about it.........how long until September gets here?

I found a coin purse on e bay for 6 bucks it works great for keeping milkweed, I got the idea because my grandfather always carried his change in one.
Hope this helps.

weldabeast reviving an old thread.
As I plan every year, more post season scouting that I never quite complete like intended.

Additionally explore some alternative climbing methods. On my list are one sticking, no sticking and 2tc. I have messed around with these a little bit, but not enough to make a full determination yet. I also plan on exploring Srt/drt/jrb.

I’m planning on getting a proper platform for next season. I’m still rocking the 1st gen wild edge perch. It works fine but it’s quite a PITA. Can be very noisy too.

Gears been squared away a couple seasons...I want to possibly take a shake at out of state hunt next year... It's really not up to me so I just have to play it by ear... The baby will be less of a baby then so maybe she'll let me venture off for a week to somewhere... If not next season the following for sure.

Whew. Let see. Going to commit to platform on my one stick. Would really like to just carry that combo into the woods.
Continue trimming my setup down to the bare essentials. Transitioned to a fanny pack and going even further.
Trimming my hunting clothes down as well. Committing to one base layer and outer layer and modify mid layers as necessary.
Getting back out scouting. Got lazy which cost me this season as the deer shifted their travel corridor due to a neighbor parking his stand right on the property line. Had I been out scouting I would have known that.

In no particular order or guarantee that it'll happen:
1. Need to completely rethink preset locations. Went into this year with a gun hunter mindset. Saw alot of deer but was too far out of shooting range many times.
2. Lighter and thinner bow. Mine is a max 70# and already want to trade in for a max 60#. Given that and seeing some issues with limb width and ATA, that'll be more my focus.
3. Deer retrieval. Even with a game cart, they kicked my butt and my lungs aren't getting any better.
4. Need to focus more on cardio this spring and summer due to #3.
5. Pay more attention to my tags so that I don't burn my buck tag on a doe.
6. Assuming I get #5 correct, stick to bow throughout the entire season.

Id really like an electric bike but I highly doubt (like 200% sure it won't happen) but it would sure be nice
Won't happen short of winning the lottery but I REALLY want one of these:

This probably should be on the no shame thread or something, but I’m an Ohio resident and have yet to try and hunt southern Ohio like the rest of the world always goes for. I’ve spent the last 3+ years getting my gear right where I want it and I’m pretty much there now I think. So now I feel it’s time to actually focus on improving my quality of hunting instead of hoping the gear will do that.

What’s been holding me back I think is that I don’t have any friends that like to hunt except my father in law. He’s disabled and pretty sure he would not be up for a trip like that. So I would be on my own. I think I just gotta get over that and just do it. Otherwise it’s never gonna happen. So hoping to change that for next season and make a good trip to southern Ohio.
