My hope is to put 3+ deer in the freezer (we are allowed 4, 1 buck). My family demolished the buck I shot two years ago in like 3 months, so really want lots of meat.
I am hoping to cover a lot of land in-season scouting to learn my new state and it's terrain.
Try to get on a decent Kentucky buck before it is all said and done for the year.
Get out and do some squirrel hunting.

Fill the doe tags early, get my wife to go spot and stalk hogs with me, and get this saddle dialed in. Practicing in the yard is one thing but the only way to get your gear dialed in good is to use it in actual hunting situations. I've been slowly tweeking the stuff i use every year and i think i may finally have it to were all the bugs are worked out. Now if i could get the animals too start showing up at the areas i anticipate them to be and stand still I'll be in business

Hunt safe and smart
Get my second deer (ever) killed and recovered
harvest my third and fourth deer as well
Make killer whole muscle jerky
Tag a fall gobbler-not sure if I’d ever shoot a hen (we will see)
Explore new properties-private with permission and public
Contribute to my team’s deer count during the SH deer contest

1. Don't get caught up in the hype (This is my first year hunting out of a saddle but I don't want to get caught up forcing it as my only mobile style. I've been very effective on the ground still hunting windy days. My last 2 bucks were at 2 yards and just inside 20 in CRP...yes 2 yards.
2. Get better at reading the hot sign, especially early season.
3. Shoot what excites me but I would like to get over the 3.5 year old buck hump this year
4. Become more effective in public land hill country
5. Soak it all in and enjoy myself and not feel pressured (I have 3 weeks of vacation off to hunt this season so it will be easier to have fun)

Your first goal is right on. I had multiple encounters on the ground last year within 10 yards. Hunting from the ground is definitely overlooked.

It’s heart pumping being eye level with them. I’m looking forward to possibly combining saddle hunting with ground hunting. The option of tearing down and going after deer you observed seems more possible with this lighter equipment. Before I would just plan on moving in on another hunt, but now it might happen right then.

1. Learn something new about Jesus or life in general . Most of us are believers and it’s a great time to share and catch up.

2. Explore further with my ebike

2. Learn best hookup for deer cart and kayak

3. Kayak hunt a small lake I’ve been eyeing if the temps stay warm enough. Will get me access to the top end of a small finger swamp without noise or scent issues.
Should be able to sneak into a tree and gain enough height to cover the entire swamp with my rifle.

4. Introduce my youngest to big woods hunting, deer drives with dogs, and deer camp life.

5. With any luck, teach him how to field dress, skin and butcher.

6. Win the grouse/ squirrel contest

I wrote these goals out at the end of last season.

Goals for this year:
-Kill a deer on Public Land
-Get a new person into deer and/or bow hunting
-Kill a deer from the ground with my bow
-Investigate Saddle Hunting - DONE
-Use water access to hunt and kill a deer
-Use OnX to find access to new private and/or public land - DONE
-Kill Strike

Strike is a deer I have been hunting for 3 yrs on a couple of small permission properties. He is at least 7.5 yrs old. Here he is last year in velvet and then hard horned. Over 3 years I have only gotten a few pictures of him in daylight across the three properties that span a couple of miles apart. I am not a trophy hunter (most all the bucks I have killed are 1.5-2.5 yrs old) but I would love to get my hands around this guy, especially with the history.

1- shoot a doe opening morning at the house
2- shoot a 130+ buck early in the season
3 - be able to go on an out of state diy hunt due to tagging out early in Ohio
4- explore some additional private I picked up and some public close to the house
5- enjoy the season and not feel pressured

1. become a better hunter and conservationist.
2. Harvest my first deer from a saddle
3. tag a mature whitetail (Buck or Doe)
4. Have some money left at end of season (going to be a challenge the way this site is going! :) )

1. Stay safe
2. Get more than one this year. Plenty of years with one but I've never got two in one year.
3. Biggest I've got is a nine point I'd like to top that.
4. As I do every year, just enjoy the outdoors.

If all goes well my 10 year old son will pull the trigger on his first deer this year.

Anything on top of that is a bonus
