When to climb down.

I use to be uncomfortable walking the woods at night but the more I did it like anything the more at ease I felt about it. Pitch darkness is a different feeling for sure. I try to make sure I don’t get in a rush and just enjoy the woods coming alive as I’m getting down and walking out. The other thing is the disorientation that can occur. Being in big woods in pitch black dark can get you turned around real fast but, it’s incredible how easy it is to navigate at night when you have a decent moon.

I know this wasn’t the original topic of discussion but I feel like some new hunters that haven’t spent their whole lives in the woods may experience something similar when starting out.

Shooting light is at about 30 min before last light aka sunset. Which means you can see for about 30-45 mins after last shooting light in most cases until last light. Do y’all sit until last light or until end of legal shooting time (sunset)?

In my state (SC) unless I am reading the laws wildly wrong, "legal shooting light" extends to fully one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset, aka dark as ****.

I was walking out in the dark last night with a new headlamp and it was very bright. I have been using Walmart cap lights and headlamps for $1 but these things are crap for visibility in the woods at night. I started thinking about what the game warden would think of me walking out with a crossbow with a bright light. Spotlighting? I am probably just guilty of multiple misdemeanors every day. I just don't know what they are.

For Alabama, sorry I misspoke! Daylight hours: 30 minutes before sunrise and 30 minutes after sunset.
