Man. Ask a hundred different saddle guys, you'll get a hundred different answers. I guess my own recommendation is to start with the simplest method that you are most comfortable with. Get the hang of saddle hunting. How to get comfy. How to shoot. How to move around the tree, etc. etc. That's enough to tackle at first. Don't make it twice as hard to start by starting a brand new climbing method you've never tried.

Some guys love spurs but that takes some practice. I would stick to the simple methods: climbing sticks, strap on steps, screw in steps, or treehopper bolts.

Then, you can move on to more advanced climbing methods later: SRT, DRT, Aider, Knaider, Swaider, Spurs, etc. etc. etc.

Since you are familiar with a climbing stand, the LWHC will be easiest for you IMO.

Just fly the broomstick up to your stand.

Just kidding. Spurs are great, but require a learning time period to get comfortable with.
Climbing sticks is a quick easy method to do.

Lots of choices though:. Sticks, ( 1-stick method using sticks. ) Wild edge steps, (alone or with use of aider/knaider),bolts, lone wolf hand climber, etc..

Probably some I'm not thinking about.

I would say that climbing sticks would have the shortest learning curve to become proficient with but that's just my opinion. Keep it simple, 3 unmodified sticks without aiders and you shouldn't have much trouble. With so many different options to explore you're going to get multiple answers for sure.

Hand drill and bolts for me. Compact, light 3.5lb for 18 bolts and the drill. Took me about 45 bolts before I got it down pat.

And thanks for all the replays so fast I also have a set of spurs I got off a friend for cheap and I have a set of hawk helium sticks on the way as of now lol gonna wait till off season to try the spurs and learn to use them befor I just try to hunt with them and the saddle shouldn b a problem I use to wear a harness all day on cell towers but the climbing part is wat I’m most worried about thanks again everything helps

Is that drill bit to much noise

The treehopper drill is very quiet. I didn't have the same experience with the EZ kut hand drill. It rattled and was not nearly as nice as the treehopper. I'll be using my treehopper at 5 am tomorrow with 14 bolts and won't have any problems at all.

Having never used climbing sticks, my Heliums were pretty straight forward. Although I added versa straps, which I'm not 100% sold that the weight savings are worth it for them. Less fiddle factor with buckle straps IMO. Someone just needs to design a lightweight extendable ladder ha.

Yes I ordered the new ones they come with the buttons so we will c how they r lol thanks

I came from climbers so I’ve been using the lwhc it’s great zero learning curve. I have sticks and steps but wasn’t at all comfortable with them. Also the lwhc is super light and small.

I jumped into saddle hunting after the Iowa deer classic last year and have used 4 different systems for different applications so far. Wild edge with and without swaider and knaider (DIY) on public land, E Z cut mini drill with bolts on private land, DRT (new system) and am not comfortable with it yet, but can use it anywhere I want as long as me feet reach the trees trunk. And I'm playing with a design of my own that is promising. To date my favorite and most compact is #1 the E Z cut mini drill and bolts, #2 wild edge with s/k, #3 private, and #4 DRT, but that's not fair to DR T system as I'm very new to it.

I got climbing spikes this summer and was awkward and terrified the first few times. Then I love them. I’ve hunted about 20 times this season and every hunt I’ve used my spikes. Yesterday morning I went out with my modified helium’s and a CAYG and I hated it! It was slow as heck, I felt less safe, the CAYG was clunky and I was unable to get as high as I wanted with the sticks and there was nothing I could do about it. I had to deal with a less than optimal branch in my way.

Now that being said, if my last 20 hunts were with my modified helium and a CAYG I’m sure most of the time delays as I climbed and the discomfort etc wouldn’t have happened.

In short, pick something and become disciplined and comfortable with it.

But don’t overlook spurs and don’t quit on them too early.

What is this lwhc everyone talkin bout looks to me just to b a platform any help thanks for all the info guys

Lone Wolf Hand Climber

Do a search for it & LWHC mods

There are threads and videos

U only use the seat portion of the treestand as ur climbing method & platform

U strap ur feet to it and climb with only the climber top half/seat and ur tether
