Which scent free detergent do you use?

FYI, a lot of the “free and clear” (almost all of them), still contain UV brighteners!

Seventh Generation brand does NOT have any UV brighteners. So that’s what I switched to.

How much the UV brighteners matter, is probably debatable. But wanted to throw it out there.

That's why I don't worry about washing base layers in detergent with brighteners. Those clothes are concealed.
We really don't know if deer see UV brighteners but why take the chance? All my outer layers are washed in non UV stuff.

All Free and Clear plus a shot of baking soda.
I’ve read a lot of mixed info saying it does and does not contain UV brighteners.

unscented deodorant and unsscented generic bath soap.
Use this year round due to severe allergies in our household.
And keep the hunting clothing sealed in a tote in the garage.

it’s not a flawless system, but it definitely helps, IMO

Since a few guys have mentioned deodorant, I will throw this out there.
Do any of you use crystal deodorant? Its strictly deodorant, it's not an antiperspirant.
I've used it daily for years and the stuff does work pretty well.
For hunting days, I use it in conjunction with Almay. I figure using the 2 may help control more strains of odor causing bacteria. A deodorant stone lasts a loooong time.

My understanding is the All F&G has brighteners.

The All F&G military edition does not. Only available on base

I read that the All powder does not and the All liquid does have the UV.

I washed my clothes in the All liquid and a black light did light them up. I washed that batch 3 times with Dawn dish liquid (I can do that with my top loader) and then once with Dead Down Wind and they stopped glowing.

Also, how often do you wash everything? Base layers after every hunt? Outerwear after every hunt or every other hunt? Dependent on the amount of sweat exerted?

Arm and hammer sensitive skin scent and dye free. Don't wash it unless it's really muddy or bloody. Heck some of my stuff goes a whole season without getting washed.

Tide, with Downy Bliss fabric softener and a capful of the scent beads also in the Bliss scent. I may have never killed, or even seen a deer while hunting, but it sure is blissful when up in the saddle.

Dead Down Wind, or whatever Wal Mart has on their shelves that is scentless.

For the last couple years I’ve switched to cleaning my clothes with an ozone generator. I’m lucky enough to have a closet in the house dedicated to my hunting clothes. No matter how nasty my clothes are after 30 mins or so in the ozone they’re scent free. Main reason I started using it is because I hunt south Louisiana and it’s always super hot here and my clothes would smell horribly from sweat after one or two hunts. I mainly use scentlok clothing which is carbon activated and you really aren’t supposed to wash a ton. Plus it saves on the wear and tear of washing the clothes over and over. I also purchased a rechargeable ozone generator so when I’m at the camp I can hang my clothing on the seats of my truck and clean my clothing. I much prefer the ozone over washing my clothing.

I’m not sure the name brand of the big one. It was one of the commercial grade ones on Amazon for like $175. In my truck I use two of the scentlok small ones for the cigarette lighters and a rechargeable one made by scent slammer. I also have an off brand rechargeable one I also use for the truck and camping while the other one is re charging.

Sport wash is the way to go. It is the only thing that will get the stink out of my polypro mountain biking gear and I have tried the other scent free hunter washes but they still would have that polypro funk.

I got a good deal on one of those commercial rigs on amazon a couple months ago. never used ozone before. stuff stinks like hell. i can smell ozone while im hunting. eventually the deer are going to start relating that smell to "bad man" if it gets more and more popular. it kills other scents but i still like washing mine more i think. how long do you run it in your closet? my dad uses ozone and i can smell it on his clothes when we put are gear on too

I usually do 30 mins to an hour depending how funky my clothing is. Maybe my sense of smell isn’t as good as yours or your machine is stronger than mine. I’ve never smelled the ozone odor on my clothing after using it. To me while it’s running it smells like a bleach mixture. I started using it after a house fire we had. It was the only thing that got the smoke smell out of our clothing. We washed ur clothing over and over and nothing worked except the ozone.

I have a good nose. Its a curse and a blessing. I might try another unit and see if it works any better at dissipating after treatments. I usually run mine for at least an hour though. Ill try 30 min n see if it still knocks the stink off. I tried that the first round i did though n i could still smell some sack on my pants :mask:. Can anybody else using ozone weigh in on this? Might need to do a search

There are a lot of variables involved.

1st, O3 dies not destroy all types of odors. Stuff that continues to off gas like boot rubber won't become odor free with O3 treatments.

2nd, what O3 generator do you have and what is the output? And how old is it? They do emit less O3 over time. I got new parts for mine. It was inexpensive and its as good as new. And generators need a rest period in between cycles. Don't try to run it for hours at a time.

3rd, how large of a space are you treating gear in? Small tub? Bag? Closet? 200 sq ft room?

I run my commercial ozone generator in the bathroom for only 10 minutes or the stuff permeates through the walls and fills the house. It will destroy fabrics and rubber so too much is not better.
