Who applied for Iowa?

I have bought my 3rd PP this year. I have never hunted Iowa but wanted to at least once in my life. My buddy has been once years ago and he was nice enough to wait on me to get my points so we could go together. We are hoping to go next year. Does anyone have any tips on hunting the public land out there and maybe what zone or public land is good?

just bought my 3rd point this year. I feel like I'm going to have more points in states for every species than I am time to hunt them all. Would be fun to get an Iowa hunt put together with some like minded guys that will hit it hard for a week or so in the rut and film it all.

Tags came in the mail today.
It was a good day. Figured out a good system to cut A&A fletch, got new arrows dialed in and got tags. Arrows fly great and hit hard.

Will I need to social distance during the hunt? Does anyone know where I can find Dr Fauci approved Scentlok masks in camo? Gotta comply right?
Try stopping me.

Tom,

Where are you hunting. I live on the east edge of Zone 5 in Davis county.

Here are a couple bucks I have been watching.

You guys in that area south of Des Moines got pounded with EHD last year. I know some pockets were hit hard and others not as bad.
How did your property fare?
Not bad in Davis County. It was much worse about two counties to the northwest of us. I had a couple of bucks disappear in mid October. I thought EHD had killed them. One showed back up in January and another one showed back up in mid February. Here is a map showing the EHD outbreak. These were only the reported suspected cases. There numbers were definitely higher. My wife found a dead head while shed hunting. It was still in velvet which could be a sign EHD killed it. It was small 8 point.

I thought Davis was slightly west of where it actually is. Glad you didn't get hit too hard.
I found 1 dead head in May when we were out there hanging stands. It was a decent 130s buck. No idea what killed it. Otherwise, we didn't find much in the way of deer carcasses.
Hope EHD doesn't rear its ugly head this summer.

Yes. Me too. My wife and were watching a nice buck feeding along side the road in front of our house right at dark. He was a solid 10 point. I have never seen him before. I hope he decides to hang around here. My screenshot of the EHD map is not too clear. Here is link to the map.

If you are on Hwy 2 going east to west when you guys come to hunt you will pass just north of our place.

We come down I-35 then West on 2.
Thanks for the link. I did have that map already...got it off the Iowa forum.
So, how is the rain situation out there this summer? They say in dry years EHD is worse.

Ima be first to warn you.....Beware of caseys general store gravy biscuits before hunting the day. It will make you like a screaming goose.

I drew with 3 points. My tag is on the way. :)

Been over there scouting multiple times this spring and currently have 6 cams running. Been a long 4 years since my last tag. Can’t wait for Oct. 1.

It's been hot and dry up till last week. We got about 2" of rain last Wednesday. It's raining right now again. The corn is already 8 to 9 ft tall. The is a multi million dollar rain for the farmers. Last Wednesday and today's rain have hit just right for the corn and bean production. The bucks are looking good also.

We got a text from a neighboring farm. The guy is a pretty serious whitetail hunter. He says that its looking like a good year.
