Who is hunting from a JX3 ? (I'm seeking input)

Love my JX3. No changes to it. This is my 2nd season with it and I have zero complaints and no issues. Rifle and bow is really easy to use while in the Hybrid. Sold all my metal stands and this is the only one I own now.

I've had around 10 hunts out of my JX3 so far and love it. I've made a few tweaks to my system as the hunts have progressed most of them have been from this site or Youtube suggestions from various users of the JX3. As to the issues mention from this thread as to transitions from standing to sitting and using the whale tail against the tree. To start with I'm 6' @ 270 lbs. and 61 years old so my agility isn't what it use to be. Now when setting up the Tether I found the If I place the Tether around the tree just above my head and count 5 of the black thread sections down from the girth hitch to place my persik My sitting position is great for my leg length from knee to the top step my feet rest on. As to the transition from standing to sitting I keep my linesman belt around the tree and loosen it out as I lean back then go into a sitting position. This keeps me in control of my decent to a sitting position. As to the whale tail I have found that if the tree has a light lean in any direction the Tether position is very important. If you are not on the low side of the tree or in the middle of the high side you will wan tot swing around the tree towards the low side. What I do here is if I set up on a tree that I didn't see the slight lean on I place the girth hitch of my heather to onside the tree away from the lean side. This isn't perfect but it helps me stay steady. I can then place the whale tail to keep me in the position I want to sit in. So far this set up system is working for me but I am sure I will continue to learn and refine it as each hunt transpires. I hope this helps someone that is like me still learning with the JX3. I will say this I LOVE THIS THING. It is the most comfortable and safest feeling system I have every used.

Mine is to be delivered tomorrow. Can’t wait to try it out. I’m new to the saddle, just started this season. Started with the sit drag and it took me a couple of hunts to get comfortable now I’m hooked. The best thing I added was another SitDrag as a back support. That’s why I got the JX3 because of the comfort. Still haven’t got the climbing method down yet that I completely satisfied with. Currently using presets with summit three section ladder that works very well. Have taken one buck and one doe so far with the saddle and can’t see myself going back to stand hunting. By far the safest I have ever felt hunting in a tree.

I am curious as to how much this effects you getting a weak side shot. I have been told by multiple different sources that the higher the tether the easier to go around the tree more to be able to get these weak sides shots.

I’m only about 8 hunts in, but I have to set the tether as high as I can reach, especially if the tree has any girth to it, to get better mobility. My bag hangs on my right side because (1) my profile is big enough already and (2) I find accessing a bag on my back to be nearly impossible. So I usually have about 45-90 degrees that there’s no way I’m taking a shot... I’m too tension loaded swinging way around to the left and my bag prevents swinging far to the right, there’s only so much distortion I’m willing to introduce to my shooting form. I typically have that weak side set somewhere near downwind and it hasn’t been an issue. Today I had a decent

12 point walk by at 15 yards, would have been an easy shot but hadn’t pulled my bow up yet, almost had my first kill from the JX3, close but no cigar.

I just had mine out in the yard for a bit and wow is this thing comfy. I also have a kestrel and mantis and honestly don’t know if it can get much more comfortable than the jx3.

What is everyone using for movement around the tree? Top of sticks seems to be popular but don’t know if that’ll cut it for 360* shooting.

I’m using a doublestep at the top of a LW stick, but 95% of the time my feet are on Ameristeps to the left and right side of the tree, this setup is awesome for comfort and slow controlled movement to check the woods. Kinda like the footpeg position you see on chopped motorcycles. I had those Ameristeps out in the barn from 15 years ago, one more would be ideal for more aggressive pushes around the left of the tree.

I'll be using screw in steps and do 4 steps to do 360º. I'll be purchasing 4 squirrel steps soon and have a ring of steps to be faster and smoother at set ups

4 API Skyhooks on an OCB. Agreed that 95% of time is on 9&3 steps which is super comfortable. As I hunted in mine tonight my only thought for comfort improvement was a way to support extended/elevated legs, as if it truly was a recliner in the sky!

Got my JX3 two weeks ago . Most comfortable stand I’ve ever sit in. The only thing negative I could say is the bridge doesn’t slide very well . I think lm going to change the bridge to Amsteel other than that I wouldn’t trade it for any other stand or saddle on the market I strongly recommend it. John really hit it out of the ballpark . Got mine two weeks after ordering it

Got mine over the holidays, hung it a couple times and it is awesome. Switch out the stock tether for Samson Predator, added a couple Ropeman 1s, and replaced both carabiners for Rock Exotica Pirates (Autolock). Planning to add a couple dump pouches to each side for the tether/lineman. Then I'll be ready to wait for October.

@kyler1945 does anyone know if the narrow version will be available for purchase anytime soon? I'm 5'9 145# and want to go to a jx3 atleast for gun hunting but I know I wont like the extra width while walking.

Probably best to call the owner John and ask him. He's very helpful and pretty easy to get on the phone. His cell phone as posted on his site 803-645-6126

Also I like the whale tail. I use two Ameristeps set a touch higher than my top double step (no platform). When I’m kicked back the ameristeps with a foot on each side of the tree provide a lot of comfort and good control for slow rotations to new positions.

I’ve also added (1) a thin foam pad on the seat for this cold weather, (2) two fleece bags, (3) diy load lifters (4) molle elastic gear retainers that let my gear ropes spool out as I climb, (5) plastic molle clips to hang two sticks as I climb, and (6) a string and clip to ensure the seat doesn’t swing down when climbing.
Hey Neonomad, can you post a pic of your DIY load lifters? Been trying to figure it out and not really sure where to find what I need. Thanks!
