Who uses thumb releases? What do you like?

I recently sold a couple thumb releases and I liked them but wanted a better one. So I’m now looking at the carters, Scott sigma, or hot shot releases. I like that the carter and hot shot has a lock button that can be manipulated with one hand if needed. But I might be making it a bigger issue than it is to not have that. But for a follow up shot I think the one handed lock on is worth it. So what are you thumb release guys using?

I'm using a Blackout Link, manufactured by Tru-Fire for Cabela's/Bass Pro, it's basically a tru-fire synapse in 1 color, with a different linkage assembly and no trigger tension adjustment, it's also swappable from 3 finger to 4 finger, it's my first thumb button release and I've noticed its made me more consistent on my back tension and follow through after the shot.

Been shooting carters for the last 7-8 years and will never go back to a wrist release. I’m still running the cyst b cuz releases without the lock but I’m so used to closing the jaw I’ve never had any issues. I do prefer a release that has a jaw that closes completely around loop so that I can lock it on and stays on the bow.

The thumb style release has been a journey for me. I started it all with a quest for more accuracy and more consistency in my shooting. I could always kill deer within my hunting range, but during practice I thought I could be more accurate. I started breaking down my form and realized I was drawing past the optimal spot on my face and reconstructed shoulder so I shortened my draw length a la Levi Morgan. I also found myself punching the trigger on my wrist style release so I went to a back tension sear style release which I liked but during my research I found a true tension style release( the Carter Attraction) this allowed me to shoot with true back tension. I bought a hunting release that was close in feel and operation to my practice release. I ended up with the Carter Pursuit. It can be used with 3 or 4 fingers, it loads with one hand and can be locked on the loop. I keep my wrist style in my pack should I ever need a back up but I'll stay with the thumb style.

For all you guys using a thumb release. I recommend purchasing a total peep release holder. It works really well. Keeps your release secure while clipped to the loop.

I’m using a truball max hunter 3 and tbh i don’t like it. I guess it’s technically a thumb release but it’s not for back tension shooting as the “trigger” is a press style. I still find myself wanting to trigger punch every few shots and i think it’s a mixture of my bad habits and how the release is designed. I want to move to a true thumb release but it’s too late to go changing stuff this season so maybe in spring I’ll pick one up and start practicing for next year.

I've got one, and I've been disappointed. I doesn't hold onto the serving as well as I would have liked. It doesn't take much for it to pop off when I'm walking. I've thought about wrapping a little more serving where it connects to the string, but i hate the idea of adding anything to it.

I use a Spot Hogg Saturday night special. Very nice release for the money. Buddy of mine has the Spot Hogg Whipper Snapper and really likes it as well. They are high quality releases

Tru fire hardcore. I switched to thumb 3 years ago and have never shot the wrist strap trigger since. I am much better with the thumb release. It allows me to have a better, more defined anchor point.

Stan Shoot off four finger for me. Absolutely love it. Can’t imagine hunting with anything else!

I keep mine on while walking around the 3d course all the time with no problem. Wouldn't trust it walking in to hunt but I think it will work really well in the tree keeping it positioned on the bow.

I think the Stan Perfex is the nicest thumb release I used.

After dropping it in the woods and spent hours looking for it ruining a hunt. I went back to wrist strap.
