A little background first. My wife bought me a saddle last year for my birthday which was yesterday by the way. I didn't get to use it last season because I pinched a nerve in my neck(no clue how) so I had a cortisone shot after the season and within 2 days everything felt fine. I had the same thing done six years prior and it worked like a charm then too. So I practiced a lot last summer with my new saddle and got my system dialed in. My season started on Sept.12th and I was loving it. I actually passed up a small 5 point and a fat doe he was harassing around the beginning of October that I could of easily killed. They were both broadside in the open at 22 yards. I passed them because of a beautiful Pope & Young 13 point lives in that woodlot and I was determined to hold out for him. Fast forward to last week and I ended up pinching the same nerve again which pretty much rendered my left arm useless again. I found out from my Dr. that it will be after the season before I can get another shot in my neck. Meanwhile I check my game cameras and find out that I not only have the 13 point on camera 25 yards in front of one of my stands but I also have a huge 9 pointer on camera 30 yards off the edge of my lawn. I'm pulling my hair out sitting at home from work and watching not only my season slip away yet again but praying that someone doesn't shoot either of those 2 bucks as gun hunting is in season now. Some words of encouragement from my saddle hunting friends here would go a long way and be greatly appreciated. Oh I almost forgot. I also bought a brand new Mathews VXR last summer and was looking forward to making my first kill with it and now can't even hold it up with my left hand much less shoot it. Thanks for letting me vent my frustrations.

Sorry to hear man!! Any chance you can get some help & gun hunt the edge of your yard??? Not sure how close you are to your neighbors??

Brutal man. I feel your pain but your health is number one and there will always be “that” deer to chase. It really sucks but reish in the times you had out this season and the fact you prepped such a killer spot. You did the hard part and that’s a huge accomplishment.

Get healthy, stronger and next year tag him when he is even bigger!

Thanks for your kind words. Hopefully both bucks will make it through the rest of the season and Maine's cold hard winter

Sorry to hear it, and my thoughts or a speedy recovery. Nerve pinches stink and are a creepy injury (pain in an area without an injury because the wiring is messed up).

My plan has always been that if I am hurt like that or just as I get older, that I'll enjoy modern archery technology by going down in draw weight. A 50 lbs bow shoots as hard as a 60 lbs did a few decades ago. I plan to be an old fart in a saddle killing deer at 20 yards with a 35 or 40 lbs bow but with the right arrow/broadhead set up.

Are there any bow hunters in your group of family and friends that you would be ok with shooting one of those bucks? If you can video for them while they do it you will still get all the adrenaline rush and most of the same satisfaction, if not more. I’ve only done this once but it was really cool. Just a suggestion....

Otherwise, focus on your health and get out there to scout for next year!

No chance of just rifle hunting out of a blind with a shooting stick to help steady the shot with your crippled left wing?

I broke my Left hand 25 years ago and had to use a blaze orange hat as a “glove” over it and used the cast as a gun rest. I didn’t get one but i tried!

Best of luck to ya!

Nah. I have neighbors on both sides of me and I couldn't hold up a crossbow if I wanted to. Call me a snob but I would rather hit a deer with my truck than kill it with a crossbow anyways.

I agree 100% with that statement. Until I pinch a nerve in my neck then see how fast I buy a crossbow! Hope you feel better.

No chance of that. Bow hunting is the only way I hunt and rifles aren't allowed in my area anyways. Kudos for you giving it your all though.
