Whos had more saddle hunting influence?

Infault sells tree stands but no saddle in the lineup. Probably has something to do with his viewpoint on saddle hunting... Follow the money.
I believe Dan is now selling a platform of sort.
Dan will im sure get into saddle market somehow.

I remember I went to TSC many moons ago and came back asking if anyone had used a canvas log carrier for a saddle!! Saddles had gone almost completely extinct. Now days you can’t hardly throw a rock without hitting a saddle MFG.

It's funny that you say this as well. This is exactly how I feel. I honestly never cared about growing saddle hunting. I wanted a place that people like me could get together. I definitely feel like I have an advantage hunting out of a saddle and I don't really want to give that up. But I'm fortunate for all of the good friends I've made on here during this journey. Luckily I haven't had a huge influx of saddle hunters in my area. I know there are a few around that I've met through this site, but by home I have never seen one in person. I've only ever found 2 trees prepped for saddle hunting other than my own. Now on my sika hunt I have run into 2 other saddle hunters my last 2 trips.

Edit to add... I must have been doing something right. I made it this far without many people knowing my real identity :tearsofjoy:

Do you happen to remember the first 10 members that created accounts after you started the site? Are they still around?

It'd be neat to know. Reminds me of how a fraternity has roll numbers in order of join order all time. It would be cool if the forum noted that on the page somewhere, or on your handle or something.

Those were a bunch of the users from the early days. Here are the first 10:
me
Casey from New Tribe
Boswell
joaxe
100rollie
nyjerry
bigburner
the turkey guy
chris conroy
Saddle Assassin

When I started this I had put a message on the archery talk thread and messaged some of the guys on there about it. John Eberhart made the first 20. I see a couple names in the top 20 that pop up from time to time but man this place has changed since. I'm happy to see @ImThere is still poking his head in now and again. justsomedude definitely should be on your list too!

I been around. I had to take some time after the great split. People I thought were friends weren’t. People I thought weren’t friends were. I was a little bitter, a little disrespected. I took it out on a few guys on the forum to which I publicly apologize for. I didn’t even realize what a asshat I had been until I introduced myself to iamcory at a saddlehunter event. So I took a long break.

That being said. I’m a DIY guy. I don’t have much to offer anymore now that everything is available through one MfG or another.

@justsomedude was super innovative. We're still seeing things he was messing with commercialized. Like the Drey. When I found my way to the site, I read all his stuff. It'd be worthwhile, imo, for new members to go back and do that. I mean, if just some dude can figure all that out...imagine how far saddlehunting can still go.

That dude helped me out a ton when I first started messing around with different climbing methods. I wonder what ever happened to him?

It's happened multiple times now when I see someone claim they "invented" a new climbing method when in most cases it's just some iteration of what was being tried back then. I just laugh.

John definitely had some influence but saddle hunting would definitely never have gotten the reboot that it did if it weren't for this site. Most of the companies around now would not even be here if not for this site. Tethrd basically launched on this site. I would say hands down just by the creation of this site Scott has had the most influence. I think Boswell and new tribe had a little more influence than John. I think they are the ones that kind of kicked it back into gear.

Personally, I think I first took interest in the concept from seeing John use one in one of his videos. Then research from there had me watching youtube videos of Boswell and the original aerohunter evo. Then after buying the evo, it came with a little business card for saddlehunter. And then everything from there spurred from the site.

There are a ton of gems in the catacombs of saddlehunter. I remember a guy was trying to cast an aluminum platform in his backyard!

In the members section, I see there's a "Newest Members" option. I want to see an "Oldest Members" sort function. :D :p

I doubt my saddlehunting path is the same as most, but given the conversational nature of this thread, I'll add that John E. had absolutely no influence on my road to the saddle.

I may have first come to know of saddles because of him, but had and still have no interest in how he specifically does it.

For me, John has a lot to say on hunting in general that I really find has broad applications for various hunting styles. I tuned into that. He is surely an ambassador of saddlehunting, but his approach there is very specific.

The forum unlocked broader possibilities that made saddlehunting a good fit for me.

For example, using a modified climber platform and saddle instead of a heavy bulky climbing stand, which still worked great for me just a couple of weeks ago.
