Why don't yall 2TC? - ultralight rope technique

this isn't a strict 2tc question, but rather than start a new thread:
has anyone used a platform with steps on an OCB? Obviously the platform has to attach via OCB and not through a cleat. I am not finding many options other than the OOAL pre-set solo (https://outonalimbmfg.com/pre-set-solo/).

I find my ameristeps uncomfortable on long sits as I am mostly a leaner; my feet get pressure points in the ball or heel as I stand and lean. I'm considering adding a platform on the OCB with 2 steps on either side for greater comfort while still having mobility around tree.
So, I've never used a platform, but if I'm understanding your question you want to know if an OCB will hold a platform and a ring of steps? Maybe I am mistaken on this, but I would think not. I had the OCB buckle come unsnapped on me twice last season with just the ring of steps. I would think a platform would generate too much leverage for an OCB.

I don't use it, but this platform is made to do what you're describing.

I use the pursuit platform with Bullman platform steps on an OCB. As long as the OCB is cammed correctly I haven't had any issues. I believe the xwing from latitude had a slot to run a ROS in conjunction with it on a seperate OCB. A lot of platform with a post require the strap to be too high to effectively run a single strap with steps. A treehopper treesuit platform would also work well with the bullman steps on an OCB if you wanted a slightly larger platform than what the pursuit offers. Another point I will make is the platform steps from bullman are pretty comfy with their angled sides and may be a viable option for upgrading your current ROS

I have only had this happen to me if I set the cam too close to one of my feet, or when I've set the strap on a pine tree (soft bark). But i wondered the same thing.

The Bullmans look much more ergonomic than the Ameristeps; I may spring for them.

I'm intrigued by the method. I'm not a fan of standing in a foot loop while repositioning. Maybe it reminds me of a horrible 5 step aider experience, but much prefer being on a fixed step (one sticking) to advance tether and also sitting down in saddle to advance climbing method.

I think it's more about the stability "feel" of the method and the what happens if I slip when my toe is in the tree. Maybe it's just my perceived margin of error?
I thought 2t/c climbing was pretty stable

It is if you become proficient at it. Just like with any other method. Sticks, one sticking, etc can be pretty sketchy at first. Not to say he isn't proficient. That aider scare could have a lot to do with not wanting to step into anything similar, and being hyper aware when he does. Better to be cautious.

For me, I think that getting the moves down and standing in the foot loop for as little time as possible is key. If I'm standing on the foot loop for more than 15 seconds that is too long. Step up, move the top tether, sit down. Don't hang out standing on the foot tether with slack above you. When you attach the ring of steps be in a comfortable seated position, not trying to do it balancing on one foot. That's a recipe for disaster.

I didn’t 2TC but twice this year mainly because I was hunting out of a hangon and I had a streamlined system with a 12” one stick with a 3 step aider and my rappel rope that fit neatly between the standoffs. The smaller wonky trees I climbed this year just weren’t ideal for 2TC. Additionally, I didn’t bring the stiffened tethers when I did 2TC either because I did not like the bulk nor the packing of them as expected when not running a pack. I’m undecided on wether they will get any love next year.

I did 2t/c for two and a half seasons as you started key is less time on the foot loop you want smooth movement and take your time. It will click and when it does its like wow. I have switched to JRB hitch climbing but always have a 2t/c kit on me.

Those bolts you sold me would've been great for the wonky trees!
