Why don't yall 2TC?

This is how I remember it from highschool, may or may not be accurate. A Haiku is a Japanese poem that is structured with 3 lines. The first contain 5 syllables, the second 7 syllables, the last 5 syllables. At least I think this is the structure. Close enough.
A 2TC HAIKU FOR YOU

Two ropes and one tree
Progressing as an inch worm
Two tether climbing

Take note, grasshopper. Knowing your prey and setting up accordingly is way more effective than any climbing method

I went out and turkey hunted this morning to see if I could get that second gobbler from yesterday. He was nowhere to be found but I did have a deer come through a little after sunrise and skirt through the valley in front of me. I think when deer hear turkey calls it puts them at ease. I'm actually surprised the deer did not smell me. From the way a spider web to my right was blowing I would have sworn she walked dead down wind of me. Anyway, after she left, I looked around the woods in that little valley and asked myself "how many of these trees could I easily climb with my 2TC kit?" I would say most of them.

Personally, I just use preset cords over at least one branch or crotch. I've seen the false crotch ideas but can't afford 2 climbing rings (1 big 1 small) for each one.

I think the 2-ring setup is for arborists setting and retrieving these from the ground. For our purposes we can climb the tree and set a false crotch manually, using a single ring, quick link, carabiner, etc. I'd want to pull them at the end of the climbing season and replace by the next season, with new webbing (no UV/rodent/etc) damage.

I went out and did another 2TC climb just now with my new HTP static 9mm tether and Amsteel foot tether. This morning was a new all-time best. I videoed the climb as usual. The setup at ground level took 1:40 minutes. I made 13 moves and was at height at 5:56 minutes. That means I climbed up in 4:16 Minutes! I really never thought I would break the 8-minute mark when I started to get proficient with this. Each move took just under 20 seconds. This is such an awesome method.

You like the HTP compared to other ropes? I expect the stiffness makes it easier to progress?

Yes, I actually do like it a lot. It is very similar to the Canyon C-IV as far as stiffness goes. Both work very well for this application. I like the top tether to be a stiff rope and the foot tether to be a soft rope, in this case it is Amsteel.

Do you find that amsteel on foot loop wears off quickly ?
I hve done about 10 practice climbs by now with daisy chain from last season sticks and wear/tear becomes very noticeable(in comparison to whole season of the same daisy on a stick)
after every climb pretty much, especially the section that rubs on the tree..

Sorry, just saw this. No, I haven't noticed any excessive wear on the Amsteel foot tether so far. The loop has a 3/4 inch wide, 12 inch piece of tubular webbing protecting the loop part.

Cold and dreary spring, then is got hot-n-dry, then cold and dreary and back to hot by this weekend.

Good news is I'll be able to start getting into 2TC shape again. Bad news is that there's so much water now, the skiters will be out in full force.

It's been a week or two since my last climb. I've been busy and we have also had several days of thunderstorms and rain off and on. The mosquitos are getting bad here too.

Let us know how the 2TC is going. We can keep each other motivated.

My plan for this year is to still do my SRT/preset combo and 2TC but focus more on 2TC hunts. Last year was my first year saddle hunting, had alot of presets established but my best hunt was a random location I found. This year, I'll still SRT for morning hunts due to presets but my afternoon hunts will be 2TC wherever I think the best location is.

My plan for the fall is to get back to basics. My first year on Public land was all about finding fresh sign and adapting to deer patterns on the fly and it worked out very well. My second year, last season, I fell into the pattern of wanting to hunt certain areas that I knew and had some history with from the year before. It didn't go as well. The presets I did have weren't productive because they were big red oaks and we had a terrible red oak acorn drop this past season. I got in a rut and felt like I was behind.

This past turkey season really reminded me about how many deer I see when I move around a lot. I saw deer just about every time I went out after turkeys and I think it was because I was covering a lot of territory. This is where 2TC really shines for me. I can carry a very lightweight climbing method and climb quickly on the spur of the moment when I find hot sign. Find the deer, set up using the best method for the spot, and kill them. That is the plan.

I've been shooting the bows the last few days and getting dialed in. I don't plan to do much scouting this summer aside from some completely new territory I want to hunt this fall. I'm sure the mosquitos, ticks and red bugs will miss me this summer, lol. I'll save the gas money for trips during the actual season.

It's been a few weeks and I wanted to see if 2TC was like riding a bicycle. I went out and just did a quick climb on my practice tree out back. I used my HTP static and Amsteel rig for this climb in conjunction with my Recon sling. This climb went well in spite of my suspicion I may have a hairline fracture in my left wrist from last weekend.

I videoed the climb as usual. The climb started at 1:29 minutes. I did 12 moves and was at hunting height of about 20 to 22 feet at 5:51 minutes for a climb time of 4:22 minutes. This is just behind my last time of 4:16 minutes but still right on par. Each move averaged 21.8 seconds.

It is like riding a bicycle!
