If you use a Wild Edge Steps and a Knaider/Swaider Combo be sure to use a linemansbelt attahed to the tree above the bottom step. My personal experience was as follows:
Practicing with the bottom step attached to tree at 4 feet off the ground. Attached the swaider and stepped off the ground about 18 inches then attached the knaider to the step. No linemans belt to keep me aligned with the tree. My swaider foot left contacting the tree and in the next second I was attached to the step with the knaider and hanging upsited down. I hit my head on the ground and it knocked me silly. After getting my witts back I pulled myself up and unhooked the Knaider dropping myself back to the ground. This was a scary expperience and I am glad I was only 4 feet off the ground. If this had been higher it would have been dangerous or fatal. Never go up a tree no matter the method without a linemans belt attached to the tree from the ground up.

That's GOOD advice! Thanks for sharing!

I know what you mean-I almost did the same thing when I first tried using those things! Now, since I started rappelling down, I connect both the rappel rope as a tether, and the lineman's rope while on the ground. It takes me longer to get up, but I don't care how long it takes!

I did similar three years ago. I was up about ten feet and my foot slipped off the tree and I went sideways. So I was ten feet up hanging sideways on a small hook on the Stepp. I got out of it but I gave up using that method.
