Wild Edge steps

Have you considered using just 3 WEI stepps in a ROS configuration (i.e. -_- )? I started out with a Perch and just never fell in love with the install/setup, and I'm a die hard WEI fan who uses them as my primary climbing method. I do have, and occasionally use other platforms, but my preference is to carry 7 stepps and use the last step to height as my center for the three-on-the-tree ROS.

I thought I was the only one on here that carried 8 steps in if I’m using my WE steps.

I just tried using 3 as the ROS at the very end of last season and actually liked it really well. I was surprised how well it worked and love how rock solid they are compared to a traditional ROS.

I like to have a platform to stand on occasionally. I may try that though as a Perch won’t offer much to stand on like a platform does So why not just three stepps?

You definitely cannot take full weight off your bridge in this setup without pulling yourself into the tree with the tether (not a long term deal lol), if set up properly it can be comfortable for both leaning or sitting (dependent on your saddle).

I practice with the wilde edge steps my first year saddle hunting and would say I put in at least 10 hours of practicing the knaider swaider and it does work forsure but the fiddle factor is huge. I sold my wilde edge steps after a month. Save yourself time and money and do the one stick climbing method. Just my opinion but it's the most efficient climbing method at this point in time. Another important point is it really marks up tree very important if your hunting public land.

FWIW my experience is they work well on hardwood trees but less so in softwoods. If you primarily climb oaks, poplars, etc, they look like a great option. WE is located in Connecticut. Lots of hardwoods. But if you hunt in western bottomlands like me with thick, inconistent, and heavily ridged bark, climbing sticks may be a better (less fiddling) choice.

New to Saddle Huntig, and I have 4 WE steps. I just got in my saddle last weekend finally. I have not tried the WE steps yet but plan to this weekend. I did pick up 4 hawk heliums and I plan on using them combined with a Ridge runner platform, but the ROS idea with my platform seems like a good idea. just put 1 WE step on either side of my platform. Who knows, i'll explore all options. :)

I used 3-5 WE stepps with the Knaider/Swaider or the Cain method my first year in the saddle and it was a pretty compact, lightweight method to get in the tree. I still have them but haven't used them since I went to 1-sticking. I got tired of managing the ropes of the stepps, and tying the knots, and having to set and reset to get it tight enough to handle a K/S. There was less fiddling after I finally stretched the ropes out. There are threads on this and I recommend doing that first.

I bought a set and went to put one on a tree. But after a few minutes of fiddling, I put it back in the box….they are still there and I’ll let you have them if you pay shipping. I’m using one stick and I just don’t see these as a better option. They were so cheap, I bought them to try…….epic fail!
I’m gonna learn SRT next so I can get inside big knarly trees.

Hey y’all, I messed up! Mine are not wild edge, they are primal brand. I got folks interested and hitting me up and I sincerely apologize!. I do have 4 of these, but I don’t see using them.

Man, Thats a great offer! PM sent brother!

I actually got in my saddle this weekend for the first time! I used the telephone pole in my yard with 1 step and platform to just get use to the saddle and took a few shots with the bow. I need practice for sure!

You can make a simple, single step aider out of just about anything you want and add one to each stick of you’d like to extend them with very little added weight. But then again, you may as well just go ahead and install a cam cleat and a supersized gear tie on one of them, learn to rappel. Welcome to the addiction!
