Wisconsin SaddleHunter Meetup - Rescheduled for August 22nd

I live in Madison, but I grew up in Mequon. I generally hunt up near Marion, although I do hunt a fair amount locally (Dane County).

Well, the Menomonee Park location is a no-go. Too much red tape, cost and rules. I am moving on to looking at some some private options. Hoping to nail down the date and location by mid-March so everyone can get it on their calendars.

I plan to present my request next Tuesday to the board at Daniel Boone Conservation League (http://DBCL.org) to host the event there. I just joined their membership ranks. Great facility and like minded outdoorsmen/women. I’ve also already had a conversation with their hunter safety instructor about covering saddles in that program.
Assuming I get the ok from the board, I would love some help to plan food and the activities of the day in general.

I’ll do more frequent posts so everyone knows things are still moving forward.

Sounds good! I looked at the Board Roster while I don't know anyone on the Board, I did go to high school with one of the people who coordinate the biathlon.

I would be happy to help organize food or activities.

Somehow I missed this thread. Since I'm only a state away. I would love to help. We will be presenting at deer fest. And depending on dates, I'd love to help with a Wisconsin get together

@Erniepower thanks for jumping into the thread. I had reached out to Greg via DM and the direct Tethrd email as well but only had gotten back an initial “what did ya have in mind” response so far from Greg. I’m working on getting the location and date locked in yet (targeting late May or early June). Guys that don’t have saddles yet wanted enough time to try and then buy before the WI season starts so thought it better to not wait till Deerfest for this meetup. They’ll get 2 separate chances to get in the saddle this way. I’ll DM you.

This is the request I will be presenting to the DBCL Board on Tuesday night to hopefully get approval to host the meetup on their grounds. Has some pretty interesting statistics if you want to have a look.

Maybe I’m missing something but why can’t we just go to a piece of public that you can hunt and do it there? You wouldn’t have to pay and could climb any tree I’d imagine.

3 reasons...

First is parking. Based on expressed interest, we will have ~50 people and most public lots will not accommodate that

Second. County public and state public don’t allow “practice” archery even if they do allow hunting. I don’t see the logic of that but them’s the rules. I am trying to find a spot that will give us an opportunity to shoot from the saddle a little if desired.

Third. It would be nice to have a shelter in the event it is raining

Anyone with an Aero Hunter saddle willing to reach out to them to see if they would toss us a few random drawing giveaway items?

Ernie has graciously offered to toss us some things from Tethrd and may even attend if dates work out.

I would also encourage everyone to order a WI Saddle Hunter Hang Time shirt from @Jefferson10940 and wear it proudly to the meetup. That should make for a good picture.

I don’t want to deal with getting shirts for attendees and the cost / hassle when people don’t show up and he does an excellent job making them in the custom color combination of your choice if you go to him directly

Fair enough, that all makes sense except the practice archery thing.

Also private lets people try out drills and bolts or spurs which are illegal on public land.

Doubt they will let us use spurs and bolts at the hunt club either unless someone were to bring a section of telephone pole or tree section that we strap to another tree.

Do we want to reach out to H2, Trophyline or any of manufacturers we might use?

Sure... just suggest that if people pick up this task that they post here which company they are contacting so multiple people don’t reach out to the same company.
