Just chose to take a different route, never said I was scared to "hurt a tree." This is the kind of stuff the owner was literally just talking about that he doesn't want to deal with. Childish.
Agreed. I personally found moving the tether up a pain and slowing me down. Same reason I do not use a lighter version of the tree squeeze. It adds a little bulk and weight to my set up, but it is so easy to climb and flip with it while staying safe.well yes .. you can run your tether as well as your linemen hook up.. and just keep push it up as you go... you really should always think safety first.
I am so sorry if i miss read your opening statement... of destroying a tree in one climb... just trying to be factual for those who may want to just consider using spurs for a time.. but yes be careful and dont get hurt.. and safety first, last and always. And perhaps you should re-read your post.. and your later statements of trying to retract ... Yup its ok you can disagree... Im ok .. Hope you are.. Its most likely me..I'm a little confused by your comment... Sounds like you are trying to stir the pot/mock me. So, a little background and clarification. I didn't say my experience was only from one climb. I said that I (at 175lbs) saw significant surface damage in the first climb on a tree, let alone repeated climbs. Also, never said anything about knowledge of forestry, biology, age structure, etc. of trees.
I was simply giving my input on my experience with spurs, which is what forums are for. This is a place for people to share their experiences without hateful banter. You can disagree with me all you want, it's my opinion and doesn't have to work for you. With that being said, I didn't know that one line went into so much assumed detail of your paragraph long rebuttal...

Agreed, tried not to go down that path. Thanks!Let’s stop this nonsense or this thread is closed!!
I’ll expand, the topic of climbing methods vs. tree damage has been widely discussed debated in many previous threads. There are quite a few members that have extensive professional tree climbing backgrounds or arborists as well. All input & opinions/experiences are appreciated but not necessarily welcome given the chippy tone of some of the response. Ain’t mad at anyone but that’s not how we roll......
I have been hunting my property for quite some time and have climbed several trees more than once and they heal fine and I have not had any die or get diseases and I weight 200 lbs so you must be doing something wrong! But to each his own!I have never climbed a tree with spurs and not harmed the tree. I'm only 175lbs and the spurs destroyed the tree with one climb.
Please read the rest of the posts. And the note from the Moderator, I'm done here. Sorry buddy wasn't trying to be an a@$ just saying I haven't seen any evidence yet! And if the landowner doesn't like it then we won't do it to respect his property so I see where you are coming from buddy! Please read the rest of the posts.
