Your setup

I have and shoot a '64 Bear Kmag, but this hunting season was all my Black Hunter longbow. In the process of finishing my hickory selfbow.

I loathe these threads. Leads me to text @razorback about new rigs
I started with a TT 17” salvo Ilf w 45 meds. Reading on here led me to upgrade to a local deal I found on a TT 19” Titan with 40# carbons. I upgraded to 50# long glass carbon and I love how this sends arrows
I then wanted to try a Toelke / Javaman/ Centaur type of one piece recurve and found a “ steal” on a JM Helms Deep double carbon 39# at 28
This is a dream to carry and draw in a tree or from ground . I am still getting dialed with drawing my ilf from a saddle outside of shots at 8:00 -12:00 . I find I’m better with shorter/ lighter bows on weak side .
I’ll end up with another at some point that is a move up in weight from the helms deep
I’m 1 year in to recurves btw. ( head exploding emoji)
I sold a competitive stand up paddle board that funded a lot of this.

2. Howard Hill Tembo 68" 63#@28"

4. Robertson Stykbow 70" 83#@28 (presently working up slowly to this one, lol)
Had a friend that shot a #70 longbow and that thing was a load. Pretty sure I want no part of #83. May have partially torn a rotator cuff thinking about it.

I’m curious what traditional bows you guys are shooting! They have a ton of makers and I’m curious who you like or would recommend. I plan on going to the show in Kalamazoo Michigan this year and would like to try to find a new bow. I’ve shot a bunch of them just always like finding other options. Thanks!

We have a trad show in Kzoo?

The 83# belonged to a good friend who passed away and his daughter gave it to me. It has a lot of sentimental value because of that, and I would love to work up to it someday, but it would be a real stretch. I can shoot the 67# pretty well and I would think I could get to 70# pretty fast if I was seriously practicing.

It's funny how draw weights have moved down so much over the years. Don't get me wrong on this since I feel that 40# is plenty for deer with a good arrow/broadhead and a good hit. I believe Howard Hill shot 100 pound draw weight bows routinely and preferred his hunting bows in the 90 pound range. Dr. Ed Ashby's bow Lady was 93# and he took over 300 animals cleanly with it. One thing I have noticed about bows as you get higher in draw weight is what Dr. Ashby commented on. He said that a heavy draw weight bow helps you get a cleaner release. The bow string tries to rip itself from your fingertips. Past bout 60 pounds I can tell that this is happening to me. It's easier for me to get a clean release from my 67# bow than my 53# bow.

Currently own:
Warf bow from a PSE Silhouette riser and Samick Sage limbs at #30.
Bear Bearcat at #40 (its a nice recurve/long hybrid bow) feel most forgiving to me.
A really old generic Ben Pearson no label bow from a yard sale that is #20.

Had at one point:
Samick Sage at #40. Was given to me by another member on this forum. Passed it on to other members recently.
Samick Discovery ILF riser with #35 limbs. Traded. Regret it, looking for another ILF someday.

My compound bows buying days are over. I don't seem myself buying another compound bow unless the 3 I have break beyond repairs. So now I'm just out to look for used recurves or long bow. This is due to there is still different styles compared to compound bows which basically all look very similar now. I love my compound bows, just IMHO the drive for technology to perfect the 'ultimate hunting bow' is leading every companies down the same path, the most effective designs which take away from the different personal preferences that traditional bows can still offer.

I am recently obsessed with the Shrewd bow at the moment. Hate you @Teddy9871 .....but budget wise I'm thinking of getting a Black Hunter Long Bow as my next purchase.

Got a picture of that PSE silhouette?

Dang I’ve had to many to name here way to many but I enjoy my DAS bows and my new favorite VPA with several sets of longbow and recurve limbs. Shot and have made many but one of my absolute favorites was my centaur longbow until she broke sad day in my house I tell you. Had to fly the flag half mast that day

@HuumanCreed haha I'll be bringing it again this year! It's really hard to put that bow down and shoot anything rlse.
