Used to hate these things when I was younger. My parents were the "eat it you get nothing else" type, but this was the only thing I got a pass on. They would make me physically gag from the taste. I've tried them a few times here and there to see if I liked them again, and it was always a hard NO. They claim your taste buds change every 7 years. Maybe a wives tail. I dunno.

Fast forward to my late 30s, my mother in law made some, and I "tried" them again, and couldn't get enough of them. Now I'm cooking them on my own. They're delicious!

Not all gas stations are created equal, ymmv

Yeah I've never even seen them at a gas station here in TN. Only place I know of that serves them is KFC. And I think maybe Cracker Barrel.

I am seeing those serve-yourself boiled peanut things popping up more and more places though.

There was this place in Beckley WV call King Tut that had the best chicken liver with onion and mushrooms. Sadly it close down recently, maybe because all their usual customers started dying of cholesterol related issues. But dang it was good. Also the pies....

Onions and mushrooms sounds good. I usually just bread and fry them on their own, with some salt, pepper, and little cayenne pepper, and soul food seasoning. I'll dip them in either heinz 57, ranch, or some spicy mustard. I'll have to try them with onions and mushrooms.

I do like beef liver with onions though. You used to be able to order it at Shoneys but its been taken off the menu.

Any of ya'll eat deer liver? Does it have a similar taste?

I'm wanting to try deer heart.

@GCTerpfan is the heart eating around here. He is still trying to find members to his club of one who think hearts taste better than tenderloins.
