Doe management with the recurve
Dude, you can't post that picture without video or a good story!!! Dang, I don't even know a thing about that hunt... but if you did that from a saddle in a place you hunted with a kayak/canoe, and killed a deer with a recurve.... I would probably pay to hunt with you!!!
I'm sure that was a cool hunt. Congrats!!!
lol - sorry didn't know there would be interest in my setup/hunt. I use my Nucanoe a lot - in fact I prefer to access spots with it when I have the choice to walk or paddle. The doe was taken with a Caribow Tuktu EX Recurve, gold tip arrows and big, nasty Simmons Safari heads. I shot her while using my lonewolf as a platform but still wearing my saddle. I do this when I am in a tree that is low to the ground and I can get to easily. I canoed to within 40 yards of my tree so I used both. I was up in the tree a whopping 9 foot high - but I am hunting brush rows and seldom can I get or find a tree over 10 foot that is large enough. I hunt public land almost exclusively and I have many WMAs I hunt throughout E & N Texas and Southern OK. On this day, it was stinking hot and windy even at 5:30 AM which is when I set up in the tree. Sun comes up right around 6:50 but in order to make my morning approach I have to be set up early. As it was I blew one deer out of the area still. That means I rose at 2:30 AM to start my trip (still want to hunt with me
) Well nothing happened until this doe and her yearling spike fawn showed up. She offered me her left side at 25 yards on a really hard quartering away shot. I aimed just in front of her hip but my arrow missed its mark and my arrow went in two inches to the right. It entered through her upper ham near her backbone, severed her Aorta, destroyed her liver and one lung and stuck in her chest bone. She ran 20 yards, stood immobile for a second or two and dropped in her tracks. She made it a whopping 25 yards from where I hit her. I am grateful she fell where she did as there was no blood with no exit wound and only a high ham entry. When I field dressed her she was plumb full. I had her field dressed and in the canoe in 20 minutes - and back at the truck in an hour and half. One more hour to game processor. It was 93 degrees that day so I had to get her in pretty fast. I usually stop and get two bags of ice to toss in the chest cavitiy but she didn't need it with the quick recovery. I use a modified saddle 95% of the time - the rest of the time you will find me in a lonewolf assault, or in my ghillie suit and tree hammock. I am a picky SOB when it comes to my equipment and most everything of mine is modified to fit me and my hunting style. I hate noise, bulk and weight and not necessarily in that order. I post a few mods on you tube and will try to do more but I only have my smart phone and two hands
Hopefully this was enough details for now - I respond to emails with questions - but during hunting season that is hit and miss at best.
