So I've occasionally used a lone wolf strap as a lineman's belt. It absolutely cannot be beat for weight and packability, but it leaves something to be desired in the strength and safety factor.

I remember my trophyline came with a web tether, and while I didn't care for it I remember the buckle that was used to adjust length being pretty slick. I'm wondering if 1 or 2 inch tubular webbing could be used as a tether. 2 inch looks like it's rated for 7000+lbs in some cases, which is way more than my HSS rope.

Can anybody weigh in on this, and maybe make some hardware suggestions?
 
You can use rated webbing as a substitute for basically any climbing rated rope. Some prefer it. Both have their pros and cons.

You'd basically have to sew a daisy chain into it to make it adjustable, right? I like the idea of cutting some bulk but rope just seems more practical for me.

I'm 99% sure the old trophyline strap had a slide buckle for adjustment. It would be lighter than a ropeman and I remember it being fairly simple to use.

Anybody got pics of the trophyline tether?

I had a pic of the buckle I think your talking about on a thread on here some where....it was a trophy line tether I got that has the sliding buckle it packs down slick I’ve often wondered about using a webbing tether with this type of buckle.

The long end that looks around the tree would be pretty cheap and easy to replace as necessary due to wear and tear. The shorter section that hooked to your bridge shouldn't ever wear.

Where the bridge clips into the tether, is that a metal on metal connection?

It wasn't too long after that I switched to a rope tether with a ropeman. Now a days I'm running 9mm sterling htp with a kong duck and its pretty compact. It's a much easier and safer DIY than stiching up the webbing.

I have the biner wrapped with some vet tape. That covers it and noise is a non-issue. I only use that on my tether though, it would be too noisy for a lineman's belt.
 
The rope tether was easier to make and didn't require stitching plus the ropeman worked so good, so that was why I initially swtiched. I've since fooled around with some webbing aiders and haven't come up with anything I really like. I tried 1" tubular with a small adjustable D ring that I got from austrialpin. The 1" webbing wanted to slip down the tree and I ended up having to carry enough webbing that it wasn't better than my rope. Give it a shot though, maybe you'll come up with something better.

I think I looked at the same d-ring. Did it work ok? If you're not using it, I may be interested in buying it off of you if my buckle doesn't work. I got the austrialpin cobra frame buckle.

It didn't work great. It's in my pile of buckles, hooks etc. that I save for a rainy day so I'm not interested in selling it lol. I just happened to have a lone wolf hook that I needed to create my knaider :tearsofjoy:
 
I carry one rope that I use for both lineman’s belt and tether. I use a lone wolf strap as a lineman’s at the top of my steps to keep me connected while switching my rope from lineman’s to tether and back again. Little chance of failure and only have to carry one rope, 1 ropeman, 2 carabiner’s, and the lone wolf strap.
