Knaider/Swaider tutorial

I have
Wow! This is an amazing idea! Genius! I'm going to gather up materials I have, order the rest, and get this thing going! This will be my first year hunting from a saddle. And now I'll be adding the Swaider/knaider system to eliminate one or more of my Muddy Pro sticks. I have 5. I think I'll use 2 Muddy sticks for my platform.
tried it and have loved it. I just need to work more on it so I am not dripping with sweat by the time I reach the top

Like the biner and sling idea to aid wiyh an extra knee high step. That gives me about 22 inch off the bat

My Knaider/Swaider set is 90% done. The only thing I didn’t already have was castration bands and hog rings. I’ll pick some up at tractor supply. Since I’m using Muddy sticks, the carabiner could slip off the step. That’s kinda scary.

Gonna retry again this weekend after applying some castration bands. Thanks for the help all!

Well...I just fell while practicing this method (Kn/Sw w/extra whoopie aider for 3 step system).

Obviously I lived to tell about it here. Figured I'd share to help me process and try to helps others.

The good news is that the LB did its job and kept me attached to tree and alive. I ended up sideways just below a WE step. Lost some skin on the ride...nothing horrific.

I was able to self rescue and right myself to finish the climb down.

It happened on the way down. I was actually coming off my last step which was placed at about 7 feet. It is good to know that even if this happened at 20+ feet the LB would have caught me. I had my weight on the Knaider and was stepping down to transfer weight on the Swaider. It all happened pretty fast but I think my toe/boot slipped off the tree to the right and it sent me to my left.

The system was awesome on the way up. It was amazing to get so high with only a few steps. I think I used 4 steps at about 6-7 feet each before I called it high enough. I thought coming down was easier than going up (except that I fell). The is a lot to manage with two biner changes and the Knaider hook. Biggest pain besides the fall was that my Swaider strap kept wanting to slide off my boot even though I was using castration bands.

@TNSTAAFL , I think adding a third aider adds too much complexity to the system. I tried it. Swaider/Knaider is effortless. Add another aider and it got exponentially complicated. If I can offer any advice about kickout it is the following: Push that toe into the tree and lean back hard against the linemans belt. I think the effective use of the linemans belt is not talked about enough. Leaning back just locks you in and makes your movements up and down much easier/effortless. I forget sometimes and let slack into the linemans when making a move and instantly feel how much harder it is to climb or descend. Pete

This. If you're into your LB enough and push your toe into the tree, you should almost be stable enough on the swaider to not even have to hold onto the step/tree. I did notice that the castration bands seem to stretch a little after a lot of use, which opens up the foot loops a little more. I'm going to add a second castration band to both the swaider and knaider.

Just got out on the system for the first time did 3 steps a few times up and down...tough getting used to how loose you need to keep the linesmans belt to have enough room to keep your knees in front of you. Going to take some getting used too but it definitely gets you up there with very few steps.

I felt the same way with my practice today. The Ropeman helped with all the adjusting as advertised, but it was awkward to have the LB so loose to get my knee up. Practice I guess.

I have been having some issues with the the foot coming out on the knaider/Swaider. I think that I figured out a way to prevent this. I sewed another strap that goes behind my foot and secures the foot. I am unable to test this today but will try it tomorrow afternoon.

I attached a picture. I am not certain I need it to wrap entirely around my leg or not.

I completed my system today and tested it 2 sticks high. I'm using Muddy Pro sticks. I was pleasantly surprised that the carabiner on my swaider was pretty secure on the Muddy step (I was worried about that before). I went up and down a few times and it got easier even with that little bit of practice. But still, I was sweating pretty good when I was done. I need to watch Peter's video again and work on my technique.

Saw this on Treestuff.com. Kinda pricey but looks like it could be incorporated into some of the aiders.

That's the only thing I'm still getting used to with this system. Short and stocky legs mean I need to have the lineman's belt pretty loose in order to get my knee up in front of me. So it makes for it being really loose as I step into the knaider portion.

Me too.

Practice today was so so. I didn't fall, so that's improvement I suppose.

I think my Swaider might be too long. I have it at hp height as shown in videos but I might try shortening it. While I don't love the idea of lifting my SW leg even further, I think I need to be able to step higher to set up my Knaider move better. As is I have to reach really high with my Kn leg. Uncomfortably high. The only way to get my Kn knee that high is to really loosen my LB to the point that it isn't helping hold me to the tree anymore. Seems dangerous to then have so much riding on my Sw foot and toe (kickout fear).

I wonder if different body dimensions affect the proper lengths for these aiders?
