I am only passionate about this discussion because I have wounded deer...and I believe people making videos should promote the 90 percent shots not the 70 percent shots and I believe you and I shouldn’t take the 70 percent shots...if the game we are pursuing just deer than why do we spends 100s and 1000s on gear? (Via dollars or time for the diyers)

I really didn’t mean for this to be a battle of wits, because I am unarmed. Im just trying to get a point across.

i am a witless fool who lives on a gravel road...people buying hunting licenses are getting lower and lower because they can’t live up to people who can make that shot... I know I can’t...but I know if people stop buying those licenses my state would stop funding on the places I can afford to hunt...I want you y’all to kill deer and stay in the sport not lob arrows and hoping

Respect!! I cant make that shot, but I know a feller who can and does frequently, but I respect your point!! Hunting is becoming such an industry that it makes it hard for blue collar boys to do it. I live in Texas and our public land opportunities suck here. If you are not willing to spend a few thousand bucks, you are out of luck.

I have watched the show many times. I like it. We are judging his channel and what type of person he is based off ONE 62 yard shot that he did perfectly. I've never seen him take that long of a shot before. If I'm not mistaken, he donates the meat to feed the needy in those areas. So he is an unethical person?? I think he gives an option for city people to see that they can hunt even in these cities and not have to drive out to Public land. WIn for us all. I think he is a good person from what I've seen. But several have said, "I would never watch those stupid videos". Hunting is a dying sport, if we don't shed light on the sport to the next generation then we wont have to worry about yardage on a bow shot. If a city kid sees his videos and gets involved with archery in his school because of it, maybe the sport will last.
I think we should say congrats and go about our own business.
We hang from mesh saddles and ropes 20-30 ft in the air while having wives and children at home and we are calling him unethical??? C'mon guys!!

That makes good sense. I personally feel that that standard is too high because I hunt with a traditional bow and I could never reach the 90% mark. But I agree that we all have to be wise about what percent risk we feel is too high and as you argued, we should be careful about encouraging others to take high risk shots. For the record I don't like the seek one show at all.

62 yard shots are a bad idea on whitetail. I can say that urban whitetail are not as jumpy to noise as most of are used to. I wouldn’t have taken that shot either way. I really don’t have a huge problem with someone else taking the shot. Does he owe it to fellow hunters to minimize the risk of wounding an animal when around people that may view hunting as controversial? Maybe
So what do I think he should have done? Probably passed on the shot but if he felt like he just had to he shouldn’t have put 62 yard in the title. If he really wanted to share he could have said that it was on the edge of what he felt comfortable with and not put a number and everyone would be happy with him.

There is a patch of woods about 1/4 mile from me in the suburbs near the railroad tracks. I have seen deer outside my house at 2AM in a dense house packed area. They came out to eat acorns. I am checking out the Google maps now. Why drive 30 minutes when I can drive 5 minutes? I need a way to get in without people calling the police.
Edit: I just looked at the aerial photo and the patch of woods I was thinking about is crisscrossed with motorcycle trails. If I shot a deer in there it could be in people's backyards in 100 feet, not yards, feet. Looks like I'm driving.

Well I hate to hear it but glad you said it. Growing up in the Southwest, I have always liked texas for the culture and scenery and for whatever reason, always was interested in moving there since I was a kid if I had the chance. Well I do work on public lands and have researched jobs and what public is in texas. I have since turned jobs down in tx just based off of lack of public.

Yeah, that's my feeling as well. With a relaxed, less noise-sensitive deer, a quiet bow, and a good shooter the shot in isolation is one that I'm not gonna take, but wouldn't get *that* worked up over, from a "taking this deer" perspective. I take more issue with the higher downside risk (including bad results from good shots) associated with operating in what he labels an urban environment, and the promotion of a last-resort shot as if it's a goal to aim for.

I would take a 62 yard shot on elk without worrying about his vitals not being in the same spot when the arrow got there.

Whitetails are about the most hair-triggered, noise-tuned large game animal.

I think a 62 yard shot is more common on Elk. Maybe antelope and mule deer?

60 plus yard shots are very common out west or in ag field areas. I don’t see it as an unethical distance. A lot more chance of a deer moving from your shot at closer distances where they will actually react to the sound of the shot. If I practiced at that distance or above, I’d have no problem taking the shot if I felt I had a clear shot and the deer was relaxed.
Now, shooting in someone’s neighborhood, depending on the house density, would bring up more reserve on the risk of tracking distance for a marginal shot. But being on video is no issue. That’s why they got editing software! Lmao! You can make anything look like unicorns and rainbows!

If it is legal, who cares what neighbors get offended. There are people who think they are Dr. Doolittle and would like to turn every WMA into a petting zoo. So what if your kid sees a wounded deer, how is that any different than seeing a deer hit by a passing car? I cannot hunt where I live because you need 10 acres to hunt, some people cannot afford to buy a 500,000 dollar piece of property to hunt on. About 5 years ago in TX you could bow hunt on 3 acres. All of the PETA folks got that changed because they did not want to be traumatized by seeing a wounded animal, now you cannot bow hunt on less than 10 acres, even if it borders 10,000 acres.

I was hunting last night beside a property that will not allow hunting, so I was very aware that if I had a shot it better be close and it better be good so I could recover the animal. All I saw was a coyote.
I expect urban areas are like that. Yet I was hunting in a sparsely populated area
