Product Accountability

Funny story that I have to tell even though I feel bad about the derail and know I will catch plenty of jabs for this one...

I had an eye on a petite, good looking brunette that hired on at my old store when I was a kid. Nothing remotely serious, but I definitely enjoyed having her around. We both found out after working together for a year that we were 2nd cousins. My great aunt came to visit and brought her along to "meet your local family" (they had recently moved down from Tennessee) and we were both very surprised to see each other. No wonder I thought she was good looking...reminded me of me!

To be fair to myself, she is a Smith and I'm a Williams and we'd never laid eyes on each other.

If she ain’t good enough for family then who is she good enough for?

This sucks without specifics. Are the Ththrd ones sticks failing?

I use bolts or my beast sticks

Others probably know more than me, but what I have seen is the glue that steadies the step to the tube is popping loose, allowing the step to wiggle a little. Doesn’t appear to be anymore wiggle than some other sticks wiggle right out of the box, but that’s just from watching videos vs first hand knowledge. My understanding is that there is also a pin through the step that will support 100% of the sticks rated weight and to my knowledge there have not been any incidents with that. With those points in mind, in my opinion, from what I have observed second hand, it appears to be a quality vs a safety issue. People paid high quality prices for the sticks and rightfully expect a high quality product in return. So they are rightfully upset when the glue pops, this on top of the stacking pegs debacle. It’s certainly has been a rough rollout. Tethrd was quick to get messaging out about the stacking pegs, haven’t seen anything similar on the glue popping issue. They may still be trying to figure out the way forward.

Honestly don't know. Other than I bought them and they didn't approve the sale. Several attempts were made to find out where I got them
In all fairness I could understand them not being happy with a competitor pro staff doing a video testing out their equipment and giving it a kinda negative review. But I think you have ever right to test their stuff and form your own opinion. Its does cause me to pause and think "well maybe he has a small bias". And I'm sure if they tested your stuff they would have bias also.

Fear from "outside the circle" reviews speaks volumes. I rather have an honest opinion then smoke blown up my rump.
Not that I'd ever give them a cent to fund their battles. Does that make me biased? Or just not drank the kool-aid yet....

I see what your saying. But my affiliation/ relationship with OOAL is diff than most. I hunted from a Ultimate 1 stick and a predator XL the entire second half of last season. I think the only reason Matt keeps me around is 1. I'm a gear junkie. 2. I have a fabrication background.

With that being said I get that from the outside looking in, it can be viewed much differently. But zero bias. I tried hard to like those sticks.

That's just me not knowing anything and seeing your vender rep tag and seeing the Out on a limb prostaff tag. I'm thankful for your reviews I've learned a lot watching your channel.

They were designed so the glue “chemical weld” would be the mechanism to hold the step to the tubing. They used a roll pin to keep the step aligned through the glueing process.

Now with the glue failing on several sticks they changed their tune to say the roll pin is good enough to hold and nothing to worry about.

I was peeved the glue popped on mine so I sent them back. Not something I want to deal with.

My wife sometimes gets perturbed with me but I have never been one to "rush into" anything. Glad I didn't with these sticks.

I had the Gen 2 predator it was a quality product .

Climbing sticks that had glue as a part of the manufacturing I would never even consider.

I love bolts but they take me forever and I wish the beast sticks had a half inch more space away from the tree.

Gen 2 predator.... didn't they have to replace mess of tubing because someone couldn't put it in the drill press straight the first time????

Tethrd guys have been saying in videos that it’s a “grade 8 roll pin”.

Now, to my understanding it’s a 1/16” roll pin that’s in the One Stick. If that’s the case, they’re full of it because I’ve never heard of a Grade 8, 1/16” Roll Pin.

So if they’re lying about product specs, what ELSE are they lying about?

What else got me fired up, was that Taylor Chamberlin aka “Hunt Urban” on YouTube, released this video about 2 weeks ago. Before the official One Stick launch.

His video was talking about his modifications to his One Sticks, when I noticed he had orange pegs. This video was made before the whole “broken peg” emails. When I commented on his video, Taylor replied saying “these were his custom 3D printed stacking pegs, but currently he’s using Tethrd’s pegs”.

So why make a video about your custom modifications to your gear, but fail to mention the custom “3D printed” stacking pegs you made? Why do “your” custom 3D printed pegs look exactly like Tethrd’s pegs?! (Tethrd peg image included for reference).

This just reaffirmed to me that Tethrd and their groupies know theirs issues but secretly make alterations to their personal gear. Consequently every One Stick I’ve seen Tethrd Pro-Staff boys use, are wrapped in Stealth Strips etc...

So now I question what other modifications are made but not talked about or noticeable?
