Modifying my muddy pros

About to switch out the original rope on my muddy pro climbing sticks with Amsteel Blue and curious if anyone has any experience with how to remove the internal rope from the inside of the stick. Can’t tell if it’s tied to anything but it appears to be tied in a knot and bound with glue.
Any insight?

Gotcha. The strength is kind of a moot point, but you could definitely get a longer rope for a lighter weight. I hadn't thought of switching out my ropes, but I may. There are may times when I needed a longer rope.

You and me both brotha. Last year I cut an additional 4’ of utility rope I got from Lowe’s and tied a carabiner to one end in order to lengthen my rope when needed when the tree trunk was too big. Of course the utility rope was all bright with pink and blue.

Now that I’ve figured out removing the original muddy pro rope I’ve found out that my Amsteel 7/64” rope is too narrow for the binding teeth on the muddy pro stick but, a simple granny knot as well as running it through the binding teeth seem to do the trick.

I'd use 1/4" Amsteel. It will hold in the cam no problem.

I don't know. I've tried amsteel in cam cleats (on the ground) and I don't like it. It comes out visibly discolored and looks crushed.

Hmmm. That can be discouraging. I’ll see how it pans out when my 1/4” Amsteel arrives. I also plan to back it up with a quick safety knot just as I did with the original ropes that came with the sticks

Guys I used this on my lowest muddy sticks so that I could climb larger diameter trees. It fits the cleats perfectly and is strong. May want to look at it.

I got mine from treestuff.com for $.80 a foot. You’ll want to use ropeman 2 for 8MM petzl Cord if you also use it for linesman belt.

Not sure as to how much weight it actually saved but Amsteel is about the lightest stuff you can get with good durability. For the last two seasons I have had no issues using amsteel with my modified hawk helium’s with the versa button. I wrap it twice around the button then tie a clove hitch for a safety knot
