Your going in sept correct ? You have way too much clothing imo. First I'd get rid of 2 pairs of socks. 2 pairs of undies Both kelvin jacket and pants. Gloves Mountain pants. Ascent jacket you only need 1 Wear the ascent pants or something similar. You don't need a 2nd pair of pants...

A rope man probably would have prevented the fall because he had the Prussik tied incorrectly. Complacency does kill. Were you in the service ? Saddle assasin - google arborist 2in1 lanyard. There are different layouts but the concept is the same. 1 rope that you can work off and be tied off...

not sure what you mean by limbs rope. I use a 2in1 type lanyard. It allows me to work off both ends and go over limbs when I'm climbing and always be hooked in. When I get to the top I just tie off with a figure 8. And that Prussik that I linked is the only thing that keeps me from falling.

It's sewn. And yes that's what I use. It's rated over 4K lbs. I believe. The shrink tube just makes it look nicer. It serves no other purpose.

    Sitka

Never heard of the companies you mentioned. I'm gonna check them out. Look at Kifaru. Supposedly they don't have retailers either and look how much their stuff costs. Pnuma stuff is legit though. Like I said on par and in some instances better than Sitka. Plus a lifetime warranty. Try sending...

I took an assault climbing course while I was a Marine and I've never seen a Prussik tied like they have in that thread. 1st when you clip in you should never be clipped in on the knot. The knot should be offset from where it wraps around the main line. 2nd the knot to join the Prussik rope...

Take a look at Pnuma outdoors. Their stuff matches and beats the quality of Sitka at better prices and a lifetime warranty. My cold weather system is Thick merino wool socks Oversized danner boots Merino thermal pants I bought off amazon Tenacity pants (thinking of buying the insulator pants...

    2017 elk trip

Very good stuff. Thanks for sharing. A few things worth considering. A 3 pin slider. For the exact reason you mentioned it's what I go with. I can practice to 100 but still have those 3 pins in a situation like you mentioned. Even a 2 pin might even worth considering. Also your shelter it...

    2017 elk trip

I can probably help a bit. I went for 10 days. DIY with an otc tag. Archery 10 days is long on your own. I was in grizzly country. And carried a 10mm glock and bear spray. Didn't see any grizz but did run into a black bear. When I go back I don't think I'll carry the spray. Since your rifle...

    First Sling

You know it's funny you said this about the price coming down. I brushed off saddle hunting when I first heard about it a little over a year ago. Then when I got interested in it I looked into saddles and could not believe the prices. The most expensive rock harnesses are 1/3 of what they want...

    New Year's Hunting resolutions

I'd like to kill a good buck. 130"+. I hunt a lot of public. So it's hit or miss. I always have this dilemma of wanting to fill my freezer and holding out on a better buck. I've had some good opportunities at bucks this year but passed because I thought I might get something bigger. Only one...
