Sitka

Nevermind guys. I am color blind. It was a purple mark which means zero extra % off.

I thought it was blue which is extra 50% off.

I'm not giving them 200 bucks for it

Yeah, I had G2 excited as well. They had some of those $200+ battery heated vests for $160 that I thought were half off as well for $80.

But they too were purple, not blue. So they were the full $160. Old eyes and small mind. Much to do about nothing.

Took this pic yesterday just messing around. Snowed on me all morning but I was nice and warm!

I would totally frame that and put it in my man cave if I took that pic

I really just wanted to see how it looked in the snow lol. Thought it was pretty cool. I did hammer one with my muzzleloader a couple hours after that. Nothing in bow range. My season is officially over but I will be taking my son to Ohio for the muzzleloader season. Hard to believe it's over already

I know a lot of you guys are on Archerytalk...but this may help some here who may not have seen my post over there on the Sitka gear i just Bought...So Ill cross post it with an update.....

I just got the incinerator bibs and the jacket. I think they compress nicely. I will be comparing this suit to my IWOM and Dayone wool parka and bibs (insulated and windstopper). I wore the bibs out last week when it was 32 degrees. I could feel a bit of coldness on the top of my knees where the bibs are a little tight...probably because the insulation is compressed there while sitting. All I had to do was stand for a few minutes and the cold feeling in the knees went away. But that was only at 32 degrees and light wind. They packed up nicely between my hang on stand and backpack. Id say they compress pretty good. Ill be heading out this afternoon with both bibs and jacket. Initial comparisons:

Packing In: Incinerator the easiest of the three to pack in, IWOM second, and then Dayone.

Weight: I still need to weigh the IWOM but the incinerator set is almost 4 lbs lighter than the dayone set.

Noise: Dayone by far the quietest, Incinerator has a little noise to it but not as bad as the IWOM. I have taken deer with the IWOM and bow though...just had to be very careful when moving and I keep my bow on my lap so i dont have to move too much getting the bow.

UPDATE: I wore the incinerator bibs and Jacket on a hunt that started at 25 degrees and went up to about 45 by 1pm. The set kept me warm. (bottom base layer was firstlite wool exp and rei heavyweight fleece, Top was firstlite labrador wool top with a filson wool vest.) The hunt I did prior to this one, I wore the sitka set and the jacket was noisy against the tree and was disappointed. On this last sit I had to wear my orange vest...and I was very satisfied with how that kept the noise down...especially against the tree...and its possible the sitka jacket is breaking in a bit. I will probably look for a light weight jacket or vest to put over the incinerator jacket. Someone suggested the equinox jacket. I may try that. Im not partial to camo patterns...but I do like predator fall gray an ASAT as my Favorites as far as concealment. I may see how my leafy asat jacket works over the incinerator too.

Bulk while wearing: Incinerator is the best....very comfortable...but will revise after today's hunt. Ive only tried on the jacket. The bibs are definitely comfortable in the stand though. Dayone and IWOM are pretty bulky on...Between the two, I think the Dayone is more comfortable in the stand. Update: Sitka was very comfortable on and not much bulk at all...so now Id have to say Sitka wins for sure. Plus I can wear it pretty comfortably with the new tribe saddle. Which I did just the other day.

Build quality: All three seem to be great. Well built. Incinerator I just got so I cant say how it will hold up yet in actual use...I have had the Dayone set for 3 years and IWOM 2 years.

Warmth: Between the IWOM and Dayone...IWOM wins. Ive been out in 20 degree weather and 20mph winds in both of these. I did make it 6 hours in the dayone but I was done at 6 hours. At 5 hours I was still good to go...but at 5 hours the wind was killing me. I was cold. One note: I may have actually had too many baselayers on that day with the dayone and to be fair, I was having a tough time keeping my head, feet and hands warm that day. I only had a heavy fleece facemask and fleece beenie hat...I think the wind was still cutting through that combo. IWOM, I was warm even at the 6 hour mark. Ive done long sits in cold with the IWOM with a decent baselayer (merino wool) and mid season outer layer (scentblocker matrix)on underneath. My feet dont get cold in the IWOM because they are covered in the IWOM..and the built in hood does a great job fighting the wind eventhough it does cut down on vision and sound.

My goal is to use the Incinerator set on those over a mile hikes back on public and be able to make it 4-5 hours in the cold. Not having to carrying in the bulkier and heavier IWOM and Dayone set. The IWOM and Dayone are better for short walks. Dayone so far would be my choice for a 4 hour sit, with less then .5 mile walk. Warm and absolutely silent. That could change though if the incinerator proves to keep me warm in the cold temps.

I'm really curious what you think about the incinerator noise when it gets really cold. (Single digits and teens) it seemed crunchy to me but perhaps they just need to be broken in. You are absolutely right on packability. You can get the jacket and bibs into a really small stuff sac and they puff back up when you put them on.

Take a look at Pnuma outdoors. Their stuff matches and beats the quality of Sitka at better prices and a lifetime warranty.
My cold weather system is

Thick merino wool socks
Oversized danner boots
Merino thermal pants I bought off amazon
Tenacity pants (thinking of buying the insulator pants as another layer )
Cabelas polartec heavyweight thermal shirt
A mid weight long sleeve shirt
Insulator vest
Waypoint jacket
Regular military issued Beenie (thinking of buying the insulator hat)
Kuiu peloton glove the left one stays on the right one comes off for shooting a bow.

That's about it. If I'm hunting from the ground I will usually wear a leafy suit over top of everything. In a tree I don't.

In this without the pants upgrade and hat upgrade I can go easy into the 20s with a wind chill. I haven't tested below this point. If I were to hunt colder then I definitely get the insulator hat and pants.

Pnuma looks like brown natgear. Ill be honest if Walmart brand had the sitka digital pattern I wouldn't be thinking about over priced sitka. The pattern is what got me to walk over to the sitka section, nothing else. I currently have asat elite pants/coat as well as their 3d leafy gear. Arguably the best pattern. If Im not shooting deer, I should at least feel/look cool doing it.

I really don't understand these prices. I just looked at Pnuma (first I've heard of them). They say they don't have retail markups. Seriously???

You are better off buying technical climbing/hiking clothing. Who do you think is doing all the R&D and innovation with these technical fabrics and technologies? Certainly not Pnuma. They're just borrowing last years ideas from Outdoor Research and Patagonia, putting some camo patterns on it, and charging an arm and a leg.

I guess my opinion isn't all that valid because I don't own Pnuma. But I do own a lot of Patagonia and other climbing brands. That stuff has never let me down.

Never heard of the companies you mentioned. I'm gonna check them out. Look at Kifaru. Supposedly they don't have retailers either and look how much their stuff costs.
Pnuma stuff is legit though. Like I said on par and in some instances better than Sitka. Plus a lifetime warranty. Try sending back some ripped up gear to Sitka for new stuff.

ive got cabelas stand hunter extreme parka and bibs in their outfitter pattern and if you hate the cold these are so nice. Bulky and heavy though

You've got to pack them in inside compression sacks. I can wear one or the other in but its got to be pretty cold

Actually on sale now ;)

G2

I have a Kuiu Teton insulated jacket. It is quieter than regular insulated jackets. That's the advantage over say a North Face. On sale, it isn't stupidly expensive

I'm old school. I love the old Winona Camo. Nothing is quieter nor lasts as long. It's not high tech, doesn't block the wind but you can layer almost anything under it to meet your hunting needs. I've been wearing it since the late 70's. I even wear the original piece that I purchased back then (although it seems to be a bit tighter than it was 40 some years ago) :D. I doubt you'd find a picture of me with a deer not wearing the old Winona Camo. They've gone out of business but being a dealer for years, I still have new unopened inventory in stock.
