    Bolts?

Well, I got a 1/2 scotch auger and a dz 1/2x6 grade 8 bolts from TSC. What I,ve seen was 3/8 but I figured more was better. I've also heard of putting qtips in the holes to find them easier. What other tips and tricks do I need to know?

K I'll get momma to take some pics with me at a tree later. I'll post them tomorrow.

Ok, there's the whole thing put together minus the suspenders which haven't come in yet. The lineman's belt is sewn on the inside and looped as described earlier. The lineman's rope is attached and in the right bag and the tether is in the left bag. The seat is loosely attached at each lineman's...

    Weak side???

I tried it when I got home from hunting and it’s a little awkward but not too bad, some practice could fix that. I shoot 43 lbs and a 2 bld stinger so it’s easier that somebody shooting 70 lbs . I’m gonna work on it.

    Weak side???

I was thinking, All this agonizing over how to shoot the weak side, which way is best etc. If you’re shooting a compound bow with a rotating release why not just drop down in weight a little and shoot it left handed when you have a weak side shot? I mean, with a little practice it couldn’t be...

    Who? How much?

Shot a Buck at < 10 yards with a Slug - and I hit shoulder... and he ran off is still alive. (Question)

It sounds like you hit him low, beneath the lungs and behind the heart. Probably did him no favors but he may be fine. Listen, there are a million ways a deer can get killed, cars, fences,(the worse imo) coyotes, dogs, other deer, cliffs, and people. We don’t want it to happen but it does and...

    Kick out?

This is my first year using them and don’t find them to be much more of a hassle than a climber, but I do need to analyze every motion and get a better, easier system of handling them. I’ve got to get a more foolproof easy method of attaching to my belt and I’ve got to find a quicker way of...

    Kick out?

I’m guessing problem #1 with sticks is kick out? Would not a 6’ pcs of 6mm cord secured to the bottom step around the tree and to the other side put an end to that? Maybe 10 seconds per stick and only doing the upper 2/3?

The Dangers of Short Static Falls

After reading this and watching some youtube work harness safety test videos it comes down to this; avoid falls into your RCH or saddle with the same intensity as you would a fall to the ground and view any slack in any line as being as dangerous as not being connected at all.

The linemans loops, I was thinking about that. On my hawk saddle the linemans loops are sewn from single layer nylon on the OUTSIDE of the saddle and then become the mollie loops around the back. If you look closely you will see that where the loop teminates it is sewn horizontally. I'm sure its...

    Just don't trust it.

There's the saddle part tack sewn together, It's ready for final sewing. It will be attached loosely to the climbing harness and it's only function will be sitting etc., it will not be involved in preventing falls. To get a better idea of this look at the video by DIY hunter on youtube from...

    Just don't trust it.

I'll try to get pics without it looking like a pile of spaghetti, I'd like to get as many eyes on it as possible looking for mistakes, weaknesses and improvements. Here's an example of redundancy. Say I use 1" tube webbing in making my climbing belt loops. I'll make a loop big enough to go from...

    Just don't trust it.

BTaylor, Main rope failure, that is the thing I looked at as a weak point, In what I have in mind I will have a seat/bridge/tether,pusik as normal but will also be attached to the tree by the harness rope so if one fails I have backup. Also I won't have any buckles in the waist strap or leg...

    Just don't trust it.

NMS, I've looked at kevlar thread and dyneema thread also. I believe I can build redundancy and reinforcement into this to my hearts content. I think if I go slow, look at products from outside the hunting industry such as arborist, mt. climbing ,pole/lineman etc. industries I can end up with...

    Just don't trust it.

Through an over abundance of caution, I've made my own saddle setup. I've looked at commercial saddles and not knocking any manufacturer have questioned some of the ways they are made, specifically buckles for the waist and leg straps. What I did is for me and I do not recommend anyone else...

    Product failure?

Has anybody ever seen a 6 or 7 mm prussic break?

    Product failure?

Has anyone had happen, seen or heard about a rope, carabiner, webbing or prussic rope itself actually breaking while hunting? I get that accidents happen through user error etc. I’m not talking about that, what I’m asking is say somebody was hunting at height, and some part of there system just...
