Just to continue to do what I do and stay healthy. I'd love to get my boy out but that's about an impossible task at his age (almost 4).
Small game hunting is the ticket for a youngster I think.Just to continue to do what I do and stay healthy. I'd love to get my boy out but that's about an impossible task at his age (almost 4).
Public land trad deer. Private land trad deer. Kill a mess of ducks.
Yeah, my "goal" is to keep as much gear in the closet this year as I can. I kinda wanna see what I can do with just a pacseat and the right weapon for ducks, squirrels, hogs, and deer. If I could boil it all down to that and a single multispecies hunting backpack, that'd be cool.Minimize gear as much as possible. Slim down the whole kit. Concentrate less on "stuff" and more on the when, where, and how.
I'm sticking with the trad bow so practice is a major part of this.
You would love how I just rigged mine for shotgunning. I took my alpz dove belt and took the pouches off and put them on pace seat. Shot shell pouch and drink pouch on belt and game bag on the back. Took it out for squirrel the other day and put some miles on it. So comfortable. I will be only pac seat hunting all year as well.Yeah, my "goal" is to keep as much gear in the closet this year as I can. Same. It’s probably the most fun you can have in the woods.A buddy of mine has been spending days working on impoundments...bugs, poison, ticks, etc. He said that by the time the season finally gets here, all he's going to want to do is take it out on the ducks.
I love the comradery of a good duck killin'.
Nice! I can't decide if I like how mine is "rigged." I just thread the shoulder straps of whatever backpack I'm using through the strap that holds the seat up. I can get to the little elastic side pockets where i keep little essentials and a water bottle pretty easily while walking or sitting, and the whole thing comes on/off pretty easily. No real complaints, but I feel if nothing else there's a more "interesting" way to do things. You would love how I just rigged mine for shotgunning. Maybe we need a waldrop mod page
I would encourage you to shoot some does with that trad bow instead of holding out for a buck. Build some confidence with that weapon so when your buck opportunity happens, you will be ready.Last year was my first time bow hunting, have been a rifle hunter for a couple decades but hunted the same mix of private/public from tripods that were set in mostly the same places.
So I had to learn how to use a saddle, climb, scout, and learned to shoot a trad bow. Never saw a buck but had does within 5 yards a dozen times.
Goals this year is to figure out how to find the bucks, have some success with game cams now. I want to shoot a public land buck with my 50 year old Herters long bow or recurve.

That is an unfortunate complication.Couldn’t get a doe tag for the county where I was hunting in WI last year or else I would have.
