I could not decide to spend the money on a platform or which one soo! Just went to the shop and built one. It's not as pretty as a Predator but it's Light Wt, Solid, And Cheap. I'll get a heavier strap but it's very stable. The clip on the bottom keeps the strap from falling. Coming from a ROS it is like a Cadillac...Resized_20240114_150216_612.jpegResized_20240114_150227_599.jpeg

Reminds me of the old tree hopper platform. Looks good buddy

It's the old Treesuit.
Treehopper reintroduced their version of it a few years ago. I tested it for Mark.
I hated it. Can't level them and something about the way the Treehopper was made it squeak horribly on the tree.
My buddy has one. The only thing that's "ground breaking" about his is when he threw it as far as he could and it slammed to the ground LOL.
He hates his too.

Ig it may be a user error? I have had zero issues. I hear this same comment among other products I use.

You Are Right. I couldn't think of the name of it. No squeaking from this one. It's solid as Sears. The thing I like over my ROS is being able to turn around on it easier.

As far as the squeaking goes, it definitely wasn't user error in my case.
Mark did all kinds of tricks to try to fix it. So it was a known issue. Not sure what the current status is with them. Maybe it's fixed? I contended that it was an issue with the texture of the paint but Mark didn't seem to agree.
My buddy texted me during his 1st hunt with his. Saying how much he despised it but he didn't elaborate. When I saw him I said..."let me guess, the thing squeaks against the tree bark". Bingo!
And the design won't allow it to be leveled on leaning trees. That certainly is not user error.
Not saying there isn't a cure for the squeak but the leveling thing is a more complex issue.
Treehopper are aluminum. I suspect the old steel versions won't squeak.

I find with any of the "non cam lock" sets regardless if it's a saddle platform or an old steel hang on with chains. The proper procedure is "set the stand, weight it with full body weight then re-set" that works with my diy suit', marks 1st Gen. And my vintage 3rd hand hang on stands.

I built one for my first platform as well. Paired it with an OCB. I didn't have a problem with squeaking that I remember. Still use it on a preset with a ratchet strap.

Looks like a Treesuit on steroids! Nice!!

Oops, everyone already narrated this. I guess I get the Captain Obvious award for the day!!!

I have the OG steel Treesuit platform that was actually part of a climbing platform system. I still have the apparatus as well. I never really tried hard to climb with it used it a couple of times like a regular platform. Ended up just ratcheting to the tree but it didn’t make a squeak but it loves to slide down a bit depending on the tree.

I used one for a while and they definitely squeak as you said. I removed the serrated teeth things from the posts which helped. Then I wrapped a bunch of duct tape around the posts to try and prevent that dang rubbing noise. I eventually just got a different platform.

I had the original re-release from treehopper without the ridges. I got rid of the squeak with gutter screws, so the heads of the screws contacted the tree. After doing that I was a big fan of it

Nice job. For years I hunted w/ a stand of very similar design only it had angled bracing underneath it. Chain on that cammed down hard. Very heavy. Never moved though. It only liked straight trees. Killed a bunch of deer off of it. Now if they could only design a platform that adjusted for angled trees!

Make some Andy stands. Nothing better.
Someone needs to manufacture ~3 or 4 pounders. They'd put all the "Predator" type designs out of the market.

This is almost exactly what I've been looking for. I've seen this pic before but didn't know that it had a name. Rope and a friction hitch and that thing will cam like no other and be quiet. I've seen version's of it on here before, basically LW's essentially cut down to platform size.. What keeps the brace from potentially dropping out the bottom?

On mine, I run a short piece of Amsteel whoopee sling from the bottom of the platform to the support rod. It works well but honestly, I've hunted off of these for 30 years or more and I never used to do anything to keep it from trap-dooring. Heck, in those early days, we weren't even wearing harnesses. Obviously that was in the old days and times have certainly changed in regards to safety.

As well as the whoopee sling works to eliminate trap door, I think an even better solution would be to run a 2nd strap around the tree to hold the support post in place. The reason I say that's better is that it will tolerate side pressure better. Yeah, the whoopee will stop trap door but it may not stop the support rod from losing it's "seating" where it meets the tree when extreme side pressure is exerted.

There's another reason a 2nd strap would be better.
We all know trees aren't perfect. They lean, they bend, they have knots, bumps and all sorts of imperfections that can complicate setting a stand.
If these Andy stands have a weak spot, it's when they are hung on the side of a leaning tree. You obviously want the stand set level (side to side) but if the tree is leaning then the post won't meet the crown of the circumference...it kinda makes contact off center. That is a situation where I can see a issue with the post having some sort of slippage or failure. I struggled with those kinds of trees many times. Hey, even with conventional hang ons or predator type stands, those can't be leveled very well on a side lean.
But with the Andy and a 2nd strap, that post can be securely positioned tight very close to the crown of a side leaning tree (within reason).

A piece of Amsteel daisy chain and a truckers hitch is quick to rig and it would prevent that post from ever failing on you. 2nd strap beats the whoopee but the whoopee is better than nothing. And I guess you can get fancy and employ the 2nd strap in conjunction with the anti trap door cord. Could probably use the same length of amsteel. Just run the tag end up to the platform after you've made the 2nd strap and truckers hitch.
I think doing both may be overkill but safety 1st.

Just remember to always be tethered before you step onto any platform. And I firmly believe a tether beats the lineman hands down on that part of your set up.
Linemans can be a brutal ride down the side of the tree. They don't alway prevent a fall they just slow it down while a rough barked tree skins you like a cheese grater.
