2024 Off-Season Getting/Staying In Shape Motivation Thread

Next Saturday. Unfortunately looks like rain/snow showers. Probably will affect me negatively but nothing I can do about it. Thanks for the luck!

Hey, I know some of you are in PA but even if you aren't, here is a chance to use your pre season motivation and exercise to help PA sportsmen. I just got a notice about this fundraiser for the https://pfsc.org/home

Basically pay $30 to help PA conservation and sportsmen, get a shirt, and if you happen to run/walk/hike the most or get the most elevation in a 12 hour period on 7/13/24 you win a prize. I happen to be leaving for vacation that morning so I probably can't get more than 10 miles in but I'll still sign up. It's shame this event doesn't overlap with a 24 hour trail running event I'm doing a few weeks later!

tagging @Jagger0502 since I found out about the PFSC from him on the Harrisburg show thread, visited their booth and became a member at the show.
I like how they start the rules off with:

  • Participation in this event is at your own risk. We recommend consulting with your doctor prior to participating
Also, you do not need to be from PA or be a member to do this event. If you think you can get top millage or top elevation gain or if you just want to get into the fundraiser and get a cool t shirt you can be from anywhere. We did have a few people not from Pa enter last year.

You will see my two year old and I log in some miles. Somehow he always logs in more than I do though….

Put up just under a mile in 10:36. Sleet when I started lol. Happy with that since* I haven't really run save for a week or two here and there since HS sports. Starting is step one, right

Did 24.3 yesterday and it sucked bad. Didnt make the time cap but completed all reps. First half was 5 rounds of 10 thrusters @ 65# + 10 pullups. Second half was 5 rounds of 7 thrusters @ 95 + 7 pullups. Time cap was 15 minutes, lol. I did the first half with 2x35# db's and the second half with 2x45 dbs. Took me 22 minutes. I dont remember ever doing 85 thrusters in one workout, I can feel all of them this morning.

Round is a shape! I’m doing great! Lol. About to get back at it. I guess these last several years of not doing anything but working in houses I’ve got lazy and gained about 40lbs. It’s time to get rid of it!

Hiked Saturday covered about 4 miles hanging cameras and putting minerals out. Today climb mill 105 flights, biceps, shoulders, triceps using dumbells, machine and cable moves.

Just always continuing staying steady and trying to maintain, I have a pull-up bar I have to walk under coming off my porch every morning I leave the house I hit 10 pull-ups. On the road a lot M-F so sitting is a problem, get home hit another 10 going in the house. my mailbox is 118yds from my front steps, first thing I do after changing is check the mail, I drag a SpudInk sled with 90# to the mail and back, on the way back I have a pair of Olympic Rings hanging under an awning and I do minimum 3, max 5 muscle ups drop down and finish the walk back to the house with the sled. Leaving for the day and getting home for the day are the only times I do 10 pull-ups on the bar, any other time I walk under it I do at least 1 up to 3. And I don’t check mail over the weekend. If it’s dark out that’ll be all I do other than daily animal chores but if it’s light out as I mentioned before been felling and bucking a couple handfuls of pine trees on the property so that’s been very good cardio in itself. Also the boys keep me plenty busy otherwise. Been keeping pretty steady with this regimen since Oct ‘22. If I end up lifting only thing I do is trap bar deadlifts or KB farmers carries and that’ll only be on Saturdays. 15 min yoga as last thing of the day before getting into bed.

Went to the gym on Sunday....I lost a bit of strength but I knew it was going to happen. Looked back on the past week and I had over 21k steps on Friday.

Strong work all. I strained a calf muscle saturday- felt some thing pop around mile 3 when headed up a hill and pivoting, hurt for a bit but not too bad and faded away. So I continued on, definitely feeling it afterwards... Nothing too major but I'm taking it easy to let it get better. Man getting old is rough lol
