I was surveying some property my company owns this afternoon. It’s typical steep and rocky WV mountains. I quickly realized it’s time to cut back on the lifting a little and start working in some more cardio. Lungs were burning long before they should have been.

Yeah, trying to balance those 2 is always tough. I've been leaning more into strength training the last few months and cardio has definitely taken a hit.

I've been lazy. But I scheduled a gym workout in the A.M. and yoga Sunday morning. Planning on mushroom hunting and hiking even though the weather isn't supposed to be great tomorrow too, should be able to cover some ground. I'll take the full pack with me and use 0% of the stuff in there lol

@GreginPA I think I need (want) a running book instead of making up my own plans and am guessing you might have some ideas, don't think I've asked this before?... Pfitzinger, Daniel's, Hanson or something else? I'm leaning pfitz and doing 18/55 for when my marathon buildup actually starts in june, but started reading a lot about Daniel Q2 plan last night...
sorry for the delay. I'm not a big reader and I've never run a marathon. it's on my 2025 list though. I hired a coach for 3 months before my March 1/2 marathon. I don't really have a plan that I followed before or after having a coach. I just run with a few clubs and do what they do and/or do what I feel like on my own.

I've been away on vacation and didn't work out much. got a few runs in but still gained a bunch of weight after drinking and eating poorly for a week. Back to the grind!

ah gotcha i just assumed you had with the regular long runs in the 12-13 mile range. i ended up ordering a few different books, but finding a local club seems like a better/ good idea as well.

Did my hour at the gym yesterday, then 5.6 miles worth my pack on in moderate heart rate zone. That was good for 107 zone minutes lol. Made yoga this morning but stuff came up and looks like hockey is the only thing left in the schedule today

Walked 3.5 miles saturday about half with just a gun and half with a gun and a gobbler.

Yesterday was 12 minutes on the eliptical increasing resistance every 2 minutes while maintaining pace. Then switched to weighted box step ups 2x35# dbs and abs. 20 reps of each for 5 rounds. Back is way better but still being a little careful with it for now.

My weight lifting has been weird. Lower body stuff (squat and deadlift) has been going up nicely week over week. Benchpress, which I've always struggled with, has been a struggle past 2 work outs. Even with deloading this week it was very had to get 5x5.

I also pulled my hamstring a little just now, so we will see what the next few days bring.

I hope the hamstring doesn't give you too much trouble. I'm not much of a lifter, but guessing that there's some similarities with running- I wouldn't worry about an off workout or two, since there's so many factors that can affect the short term- stress, sleep, diet etc to name a few. Today is a rest/crosstrain day for me so I spent a few hours after work shoveling dirt and compost/weeding/getting the outside of my house more presentable. Nothing too crazy but my back and shoulder muscles are wondering why they were being used so much lol

Hamstrings, Ya. At my age stretching is very important. I have gout in the feet, or just old arthritis, stretching my hamstrings helps my feet alot. Too many old parts that also need stretching!
Edit: Trying to loose some weight, so far about 10lbs, need to drop 15 more if I want to climb this season. Most guys my age are sitting on the porch watching the world go buy!

Heck nowadays I can show you teens - grown men that do nothing but sit around and waste away. Its almost the American way today.

It seems pretty common to me. There are a lot of people that get almost zero physical activity on a daily basis.
