What are you guys using to bury a tail end in 7/64" amsteel. I bought a 4.5mm knitting needle, to make my own Fid thingy, and its solid, so I drilled it out some on the lathe, but man, it still dosn't slide thru it well. Any suggestions? making a gear hanger.
thanks

I’ve found that on smaller diameter amsteel the end taper is essential if you’re using the wire method.

What sizes are you guys using for what? I think I'm gonna do some amstel upgrades for this year, bridge for sure not sure what else, lol

I bought a 15 foot piece of 7/16 for my bridge and I planned to use the extra for my tether, but one of the guru here (G2 or Redsquirrel??) told me that ropeman 1 doesn't work with Amsteel.
Doesn't sound like anyone uses Amsteel for tethers.
And most guys like a less supple rope for lineman's belt. Amsteel doesn't flip as well as a stiff rope.

I read this, @Allegheny Tom has extra 7/16 and can make several of us a new ultra-light bridge.
Have I ever told you what a fabulous Saddle fellow you are Tom? Yep, an absolutely wonderful guy. In fact, I always considered you one of the SH Gurus as well. :D :) ;)

For a bridge we are using 1/4 inch amsteel. Splicing only per manufacturer, does not like knots or a ropeman. G2outdoors has a video using 7/64 amsteel for a gear hanger and it's used for miscellaneous light duty applications cause of how light it is and packs well. Haven't heard of many using anything bigger than 1/4 inch for saddle hunting.

Ad: 7/16 Amsteel bridges. Will trade for a complete Mantis system

I'm still experimenting with bridge length so here's my temp bridge set up.

I did a locked Brummel (thru the saddle loop on one side) and thru the other loop, and then I did a Rolling Magnus Hitch to make the length adjustable.
I think G2 tried the RMHitch but said he had trouble getting it to not slip.
It holds tight for me when I need it to, and slides easily when I want to adjust the length.

I figure I will hunt with it one year and dial the length in. Then I will do a brummel on one end and a stitched loop on a carabiner on the other end...maybe. I might nix the beener and just do a lock stitch around the loop and just step thru when I put the saddle on/off.

I went to a fixed bridge not long after messing with the stock bridge to get a length I feel comfortable with for now, love the lock brummel but not so much of a fan of a stitch lock. From my experience with amsteel it is pretty slick but I know that the RMH has a very tight lockdown. I just wanted to eliminate as many caribiners as possible, only place I have them is on my ropeman. I think you will end up with a fixed bridge before season.
