For our oaks down here it is virtually all before full leaf drop but our oaks generally are the some of the last trees to fully drop and some species wont drop until spring when they start putting on new ones.
Do acorns drop before the leaves or do they ever drop after?
95% of the leaves are dropped in central WI. Should I be forgetting about looking for acorns for now and focusing on other food attractions?
[/QUOTE You can still look for acorns but most in Wisconsin are done dropping. A good % of leaves do remain till new growth starts in the spring.
Some the best acorn drop happens when oak blight starts on our white oaks coinciding when normal fall drop starts. I have seen diseased trees drop tons of acorns. it’s unfortunate but it’s Mother Natures way of propagating the species by producing more acorns when the tree was healthy. Basicly a dying tree producing more acorns for the next generation of oaks.
