I tried rappelling in the yard. Never made it to the woods with it. For some reason I was way uncomfortable doing it in the yard. Probably would have been fine doing it in the woods because I also hate climbing my trees in my yard but I have zero issues with it in the woods. Probably would be the same with rappelling. But I feel like there’s already enough fiddle factor with saddle hunting as it is and that was just one more thing. I’ve never had a problem just climbing down. I have to put all that away anyway so just assumed stick with what I know and get 2 uses out of my climbing gear instead of one.

So yeah I’m one of the odd balls that just likes to climb down lol.

Ione stick and rappelling down for me. Like anything else, it takes a few times to get comfortable doing it. Using and auto block slows down the decent and helps you learn. I know I shouldn’t, but lately I’ve been skipping the auto block and have no problem controlling my decent. In the beginning it was drop too fast… jerky stop… drop too fast again… hard jerking stop lol. Now I’m smooth and loving it.

Giving the rappelling thing and one sticking a try but just dont see the point in rappelling using multiple sticks
I had rappelled using multiple sticks before switching to one sticking. To me, climbing down at the end of a hunt, when it's dark, you're tired and your toes are frozen, was always the part I was most nervous about. Rappelling was a much more comfortable thing for me to do. Not without it's risks of course, but you can take steps to mitigate those risks.

If I was using multiple sticks, rappelling to me would be extra stuff to carry. Your already carrying the multiple sticks. Now you have to carry the rappel rope as well.

FWIW, I currently 1-stick and rappel which is how I jumped into saddle hunting.
