Amsteel Hys strap

I have and like the Hys strap but it got me thinking why not make a amsteel daisy chain version. The only thing I did different than a standard daisy chain is I made sure one side of each loop was longer than the other. I don't think it would matter but I always made sure it was the same leg of the rope. The only advantage is it's smaller than the actual Hys strap.

What lengths did you use for each side of each loop?

Around 2 to 2.5 inches on the short one. And for the longer leg I just eyed each one up to what looked good probably 0.5 to 1 in longer than the short leg.

You're just making loops. The lengths don't have to be precise. It's more important to keep the splices in line and not to get a twist in the rope. I pulled mine apart half way thru because I was making a spiral. I started paying more attention to that and it came out much better the second time.

I made one last night and I just eyeballed it up. I think it will work well. Thanks.

I really like this idea, and decided to try it with zing-it. I was a little sceptical as to how it would hold up under the weight of the gun/bow, but it does really well. Heres my setup. Thanks for the ideas! All less than 3 oz.

I like the idea, been considering it. I find the regular HYS strap very bulky. It works good, just a little bulky for my taste. I’ll be trying something different like this idea soon.

The only thing I don’t like about it... it’s too long (not what she said). Even a large tree 12’ up or higher are what 2’ or less in circumference? Strap is 6’.

Wanna reduce bulk, they could be a little shorter and still be enough to work with

Cutting it down and reburying the end would be no problem. But it packs up so small as it is I won't be cutting mine. A 2ft diameter tree is over 6.28 ft circumference so the strap has to be that long at least.

2’ in circumference is 2’. Unless my math is off.

But I’m not a smart fella.

Actually got to put mine to work over the weekend. I was concerned hat the weight of the gun and vest would pull it down. Wasnt an issue and it worked great!

Correct. But I've been in trees 2 ft in diameter at hunting height which means I'd need a 6+ ft strap to go around the circumference of the tree. I'd just hate to get there and come up short.

I actually like to have a tag end that comes down along the tree to hang my pack from so it is at a lower height than my weapon and other gear that I have hanging off the strap.

My point is circumference is not diameter. A two foot around tree is 2 foot around. Not 6.8whatever.

I doubt many of us are climbing sequoias. But maybe dem NC trees just be smaller around here.

If I was going to whittle one up from amsteel it would not be as long as the tethered one. That’s all.
