I recommend a handgun pouch that fully conceals the gun with MOLLE loop attachments.
element of surprise/lack of escalation if it is a fellow human?

Exactly...or if it's hikers/backpackers, which I've encountered multiple times while hunting on state game lands with the Appalachian Trail running thru them, especially during the spring gobbler season. IMO, ( & with personal experience,) those folks would have an extremely negative reaction to seeing a handgun, mainly because they are what I refer to as "gentle souls," & many of them have "lazy minds," so NOTHING good would result from that interaction...just sayin'.element of surprise/lack of escalation if it is a fellow human?

Well to be fair, if those folks are on state game lands, that is on them, because there are typically alot of guns on state lands.Exactly...or if it's hikers/backpackers, which I've encountered multiple times while hunting on state game lands with the Appalachian Trail running thru them, especially during the spring gobbler season. Now, if you're hunting out West, where you can go miles before seeing a person, not as much of a concern...at least I think so...I can't state from personal experience on that.
The authorities would laugh if you're on state land. This would have no bearing on me. Me legally carrying a weapon is none of their concern and I would not engage with anyone who approached me trying to have that conversation. Not trying to derail the thread, point is, wear your holster wherever it is most comfortable for your hike and hunt, which is what raisins is trying to do.
For me that is always OWB and/or somewhere that won't be uncomfortable and/or somewhere easily accessible. If some hiker has a problem with that they can call whatever authority they want to come check me out.
Badlands super day pack has a built in holster on the waist belt
Yes, but heat-molded Kydex belt loops don't hold up that well in long-term use. There may be some options for injection-molded belt loops on HolsterBuilder - you'd have to drill them yourself, which is pretty straightforward - but they probably top out at 2" or so, and your waist belt is probably bigger than that.Could u buy some kydex or use a heat gun and bend PVC to make belt loops that are wide enough to get ur pack belt thru? The 1s that come with it utilize 2 of the 4 available holes down the side of the holster and u could make 1 that is wide/tall enough that uses the 2 holes furthest from each other to make it as tall as possible and then maybe the pack belt will go thru.

Yeah....I've never used that stuff. I just use sch10 sprinkler pipe and a heat gun to make plastic stuff. I'll take your word for it. I've used plastic irrigation pipe to make a sheath for a Fiskars saw, but that's about as much as I've done with that material. On a backpack waist belt, my instinct would be for either leather or seatbelt webbing; I wouldn't want to create 'hot spots' when I've got a full pack. I could be wrong though.Yeah....I've never used that stuff. I just use sch10 sprinkler pipe and a heat gun to make plastic stuff. That holds up very well
Can you post a pic or two?In case it helps anyone, the small sized Marsupial holster works well.
The attachment is a strap meant to weave through MOLLE (has 2 webbing slots for the weave) and then snap.
I couldn't weave through MOLLE since my pack belt doesn't have any. But the snap just barely reached and snapped (with everything removed from the pack belt pocket).
I didn't like making that snap do something it wasn't designed for (hold the whole shebang without the MOLLE assist).
So, I took some zingit or lashit (whichever is the thickest) and threaded it through the webbing slots (on each side separately) and then tied a loops behind the belt on each side of the holster webbing. So, if the snap on the holster comes on done, it won't go anywhere. Used gray cord, and slid knots behind holster. Looks clean.

I've been lusting over one of those for a few years to fit my S&W 460V to carry during the deer firearm season. Last I checked, they make one that fits, but not that would accept the pistol with the rail and optic attached to the top strap of the xframe revolver. So far I have pushed out the thoughts of breaking out the dremel and modifying one fresh out of the package, but not sure if I'll make it to the fall without trying it.For a chest holster I can’t recommend the GunfighterInc Kenai holster enough, it’s awesome. I’ve work one with an old beat up High Power for the last two years while bow hunting. Sits close to the chest, doesn’t bounce, no problem with a backpack. If I have a coat over top zipped up the butt of the gun would be missed by most people.
I've used both zip ties and Velcro OneWrap to do the same thing.i slid the knot i used around for a pic, but it will usually be tucked
i tied a blake's hitch first to form the loop, so i could slide and it would hold (can't stand to try to tie a knot in a taut cord and keep loosing tightness while tying)
then, on the end the hitch slides on, i tied 3 half hitches and then a stopper knot so that it won't move
