Anyone try one of these?

seems awesome, if you can safely and comfortably go around limbs

i wonder if 1 or 2 strap on steps would help that?

get the climber under the branch, put a strap on step over the branch, put left foot on step, unhook stand's wire rope, step with stand foot to bring it over branch, reattach and collect strap on step?
Or have 2 wires one that just hangs out straight, when you need to go around a branch you, attach the unhooked one over the branch and release the lower, then swap again at the next branch...?

i just realized that both of our solutions would be a lot easier going up the tree.

I don't know why I didn't think of this before. I just threw an Ultimaider on the stand. I'm thinking this way I can start up the tree higher and go around branches. I just haven't had time to try it yet. Pictures to come.

I just tried it. I have to play with the step closer to the stand. The stand won’t allow you to toe the tree so I will have to lower it. I can get on the stand from the middle step but I have to kneel on it to get on.

Good idea. Climb like a climber, but then do a one stick move around branches using the aider?

Anyone have a video of climbing with one of these. I would be interested in seeing it.

Probably a silly question but couldn’t you use a gri gri or Madrock on your tether (or carry rappel rope like one sticking, and when you get to a branch, just raise your tether as high as possible, use the mechanical to raise your self in the saddle a foot or so higher, then reattach the climber and continue? At 4lbs, it must be light enough to unattached and reattach without using aiders, or an extra wire… Just thinking out loud here but I see no reason why it wouldn’t work

I use two deer me rope on tree steps to get above the taper when using a climber.

I got one last week.First impression is very good after a couple mods.I ditched the straps and just put my feet under the crossbar to climb. It climbs very well and really bits into the tree.I'd put ease of use in between a hand climber and a sit and climb.I also removed the two top pins and welded it permanently open.I felt that dealing with 4 pins was a pia and since I don't put a platform in a pack,I see no benefit of folding it down.It rides perfectly on the back of my sitka tool belt harness and when I get to a tree,I just have to remove one pin to hook it up.Although it's not a huge platform,it's so light that you don't notice it.It's also big enough that you can stand, turn and shoot from your weak side.To me,that's imperative and an advantage over my ultimate one stick, that I love.I can't say how well it will handle a bunch of side pressure but it really doesn't have to since you can shoot around most of the tree from the platform. Also,if you want to shift sides of the tree for whatever reason, you just shorten your tether, put your feet under the cross bar and move. It's limited in that you won't be able to climb every single tree, especially bigger trees. However, what it's able to do,it does very well.Climbing down is also easy but I just rappel down, like I do when using one stick.I feel it was a worthwhile purchase.

The four pins are a PIA and I like your idea of welding it open. I just have to find someone that is good at welding aluminum.

My primary go to stand for the past 20+ years was a LW hand climber and I never folded it up.I just don't see the need and with a stand as compact as this,no need at all.I was playing with this stand last week on a day that was freezing cold. The top pins about had me homicidal.I would prefer a belt system like a LW but only dealing with one or two pins is fine. It's really a nice platform but I think they should offer it welded up.Also,I also don't see any need for the straps or the one foot climbing method.I like simplicity and climbing with the cross bar is as simple as it gets.I'll get a chance to hunt with it when our late season comes in after Christmas. So far though,I think it's gonna be a winner.

I looked again at the video and when the guy has two feet on the platform his heels are hanging off the end. How can you turn and shoot from your weak side? You must be some sort of Ninja deer killer!

Can you replace the pins with bolts to keep it in the open position?

No because the pins need to be removed to slide the cables into position.

Yeah, I ditched the foot straps also. The cross bar works good for me as it is!
