API huntn stick

It's tough to see in the picture, but the button actually is already slightly closer to the top standoff than to the bottom one, by about an inch. I still haven't tested out whether it's even necessary to move the button, but should be easy to do. Just need a slightly bigger drill bit for a hole on the back of each stick that the nose of the button fits into when they're stacked.

What rope did you buy for the rope mod?

It’s the muddy lifeline rope, whatever that is. Seemed to bind and hold well with the button that came with the sticks, though I’ve gone back to using the cam buckles.

This became a Friday night project and was pretty simple- just some measuring, a single cut and one new hole drilled in each stick. Sticks are now 22” and ~2lbs 3oz each, excluding rope/strap, with 19” steps. Wound up dropping a little over 13oz per stick. Could be much lighter with thinner aluminum if that’s what you’re going for.

I’ll post some pics later this weekend, but I’m pretty pleased with the results. Now need to decide on an approach for an aider (attached or movable?) and figure out what to do with the steps I removed- seems there’s a platform option there somehow...

How thick is the 1” tubing on the api hunting sticks? 1/8?

Does anyone know if the stick is 1/8 aluminum tubing 6061? I thought about buying these and putting the 1/8 tube on cause I'm 220#

I wouldn’t bother buying tubing unless u we’re getting 1/16

Drill out the factory post & ul be good

U could get 1 small piece of 1/16 & do a test stick as ur bottom stick

I have the API sticks as well, bought 2 sets b/c I had a gift card from work... The most I've used so far was 5 and a ring of steps and I can get way up there. Do y'all think I could use the last step to make a platform? I like the mod, looks great! I think I would definitely cut mine down if I was traveling more on public land but I'm using them with my new Mantis on my lease for now....

What kind of knot do y'all use for the rope mod? Worth buying some Amsteel?

No knots needed, use a bolt as a boat cleat. Shown on 2 different types of sticks

I really like the boat cleat idea. I work in the Marine industry so that's natural for me... I will just have to braid a loop in the Amsteel once I get it. Thanks!

Can you show a close up of how to tie off on the bolt boat cleat? Is tying this way still pretty quick?

Are the first few pics the API's drilled out? If so how strong are they after doing this? Any issues? I'm 180 lbs and was thinking about drilling these out and shortening them down. Now seeing this it really makes me want to!
